When in Thailand we just use cash machines but what's the score in Cambodia when US Dollars are preferable to local currency. Will it be easier and less costley if we take just take it with us?

If you are with someone like HSBC you can pull cash out the wall pretty cheaply in US $ which works in most places there,

They have their own currency - the Riel - which you will get given as change at some spots when you use US dollars - sometimes you get both back. Riels are pretty useless and think it is about 6000 to the $. I kept some as a souvenir. Handy to use as tips though.

ATMs are everywhere and dispense US Dollars. They pretty much all charge $3-$5 per withdrawal though except Canadia Bank which is free.

There are 4000 Riel to the Dollar and you'll get any change below $1 in Riels.

Are you here now then? I'm stuck in Phnom Penh waiting for my Thai visa.

I'm so pleased your're still going.
I read your post but when you moved it to a blog after taking on UNICEF duties lost the link,I would like to read it.
We are doing Siam Reap after PP as well,if you find any good restaurants or street food let me know please also if you find any crap ones.My wife is a bit choosier than the kids and I.

Good luck with the rest of your trip,it really is the stuff of dreams.
