Go to John's Pizzeria. Make sure you go to the converted church because this is the largest one.

230 Fifth
Finding it is a challenge because it is in an office building. Find 230 5th Ave and enter the lobby. Security will point you in the right direction. I have not eaten here but I took a group of 20 people the night before my wedding and the views of the Empire State building are amazing.
OK, you asked nicely,

Hi..
I know its a little late as you have already booked your hotel but for future or anyone else thinking of going NYC we used Priceline name your price ( this is where you bid for your hotels at a specific star level and area)
We just did 8 days in NYC over the easter break and managed to stay at 4 star hotels all for £1000. Over this period we couldnt even find a 3 star Holiday Inn for less than 170 in Manhattan using traditional methods.
Pros -
Good hotels right in the centre of Manhattan.
Price was circa 50% off normal rates if not more.
Cons
Difficult to get more than 4 days at one hotel but if you dont mind splitting up your hotels then not a problem. ( Much easier if you don't have Kids)
Dont get exact choice of hotel.
To give you an idea of cost we managed to split our hotel days between 2 hotels at the following rates.
Days 1-4 - Intercontinental The Barclay ( Midtown 48th and Lexington) -Ideal place to be located. We paid £135 including tax per night when the cheapest rate we could find on usual search sites was no less then £215 per night.
Days 4-8 - Kitano Hotel ( Midtown 34th and Park Avenue.) Location not quite as good as Intercontinental but still excellent and our room was huge ( NYC hotel sizes are shockingly small) and we had an amazing view of the Empire State Building from our room. Excellent hotel and we paid £117 inc tax per night when the cheapest price on other places was £295 per night.
Loads of websites to tell you how to get the best put of price line. - I would try this method again next time I visit NYC.
As for food places ..
Loved Shake Shack, Joes Pizzerria , Grimaldis, Max Brenner, Juniors for their cheesecake,
Locande Verde for Brunch (apparently owned by Robert Di Nero).
Melt for a quick cheap breakfast,
Eataly ( so much Italian food choice here) and of course the hot dog street vendors and food carts, but found the better food carts around Soho.
There are so many choices in NYC - it's not difficult to eat well on a limited budget- just remember they add bloody sales tax to everything.
