Munich - UK over 4 days - what to see ?

At the end of the month I'll be driving back from Munich to the UK over about 4 days with the family (Mrs + 8&10 y/o girls). Don't want to spend too long in the car on any one day due to excessive grief from the back seats, so will probably be aiming to move on by 150-200 miles each day and finding hotels along the way.

Any recommendations for things/places to see ? The obvious route goes via Nuremberg/Frankfurt/Cologne and then through Belgium, but an alternative route or small detour could be interesting.

PS: I won't need to go to the 'ring as I'm doing that on the way out, and we're going to the BMW museum in Munich, so the family's capacity for "car stuff" will probably have been exhausted by then...

Maybe go down to Neuschwanstein castle then up the Romantic Road through places like Rothenburg ob der Tauber then onto Wurzburg and Cologne.
