Afternoon all,

Looking for ideas on where I can go over a weekend/three days to get away from the stresses of modern life - any advice/opinions/options are much appreciated!

I hand in my final project at uni soon (mature PT student, working full time before anyone starts!!) and would be looking to get away the following weekend as a temporary bolster to my sanity until I can get away on a proper break!!

Sun, sand and not being within easy telecoms range would be a good start to any suggestions.

I'm based in the South East if that makes any difference and would be looking to travel alone.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks,

Is it generally quite a peaceful place to relax?

EDIT: and I can take my car over there too right? on the ferry? I will call the insurers to see how much extra they want for that.

If you're wanting to stay in the UK, Cornwall is very nice.

Thanks!

Don't necessarily have to stay in the UK and money isn't a massive barrier - the only consideration is that I'd like to maximise the break rather than spend half of it travelling.

Anywhere on the continent worth hopping over for a short one? I'd really like some good sun..

Short distances and decent sun, I suspect you're looking at either Egypt or Morocco.

Guernsey. Top speed allowed is 35mph, 25 in villages. R & R doesn't get much slower, unless you go to Herm or Sark, no cars allowed at all.

Fresh lobster and crab, open long beaches and Pound notes still in use.

^^^^^ This smile I was also going to suggest Jersey - get the fast boat from Poole with your car or fly from Southampton or Gatwick - if flying beware fog at Guernsey airport can have a big impact on flights - less so at Jersey. Great beaches, nice restaurants, good walking, lots of hotel choice.

and re: Morocco - hadn't thought of that - is it relatively safe?

Book your motor on the Eurostar, and drive to Bruges for a long weekend. We just did it, very relaxing. And a bonus if you like beer.

Marrakech is lovely - but it's a four hour flight - add a couple of hours dicking about at the airport this end and an hour at the other end and that's quite a lot of travelling for a short weekend away.....

I'd go for the Costa de Almeria myself. Agua Amarga for preference. Sun (sunniest place in mainland Europe I seem to recall), sand and very, very remote and quiet - but within an easy drive of Almeria airport.

I would also suggest Guernsey or Jersey.

I know Guernsey quite well and its a lovely place to relax.

Take a trip to Herm, only a short ferry ride from St Peters Port.

Walks along the cliffs, visit the WW2 bunkers, German Underground hospital, walks along the great beaches, sea fishing, try out the great restaurants, crab meat at Fermain Bay beach cafe yum yum!

I'd suggest a 'learn to sail' weekend - keeps your mind occupied and sailing is a great de-stresser smile

+1

Or for maximum relaxation, stay in UK in a nice luxurious spa hotel : New Forest for example?

Our favourite places for R&R is Lake District, New Forest and Cornwall.

Thanks for all the responses so far!!

I will be looking into them all shortly. Guess the final decision will be based upon the weather forecast at the time of travel...
