What happens to the price if you try to book the outbound flight separately to the return flight?

Flights in the middle of the fortnight are more expensive and/or they want to incentivise you to go for 2 weeks.

"Simples".
They're not in the middle of the fortnight, they are all Sunday flights and the same plane, same flight.
Er...

You're flying out on weekend A and back on weekend C. Flying at all on weekend B may be more expensive, i.e. out on A back on B, or out on B back on C.

Flight B is in the middle of the fortnight.

Just a thought smile

Have you tried Skyscanner / Kayak / Expedia etc for flight price comparison?

Yes, the main issue is we use Cardiff airport and WANT to use it to support it given the Welsh government have just bought it out but it's also very convenient. Using a London airport has additional travel and accommodation costs on top of course so you have to take it all in the round.

It looks like the midway option is to fly to Turkey instead and midweek (still too much but bearable). Shame as I would rather support Spain's ailing economy than the Turkish one.

I hate to think how this all plays out if Gove gets school holidays shortened.

And there it is!

Today the fares, for 5, for the second week has dropped £1200 to a more reasonable £1544. Ordinarily I would already have booked elsewhere and they would have lost the revenue and this simply underlines what a con it all is.

It makes car insurance premium seem carefully calculated.

I may not go at all now (but probably will....)

However, having seen the same flights (in the 2 week period) for £1144, I still feel I should wait as it's like gambling and I'm always going to feel like I've been had.

This may sound daft, but try looking from another computer and then commit to the price if it's cheaper.

That seems to be a common misconception because I was told the price went up on a second look so I have indeed done that and it's the same price.

My girlfriend is a teacher and we normally travel down south (we're in Scotland), at the start of the Scottish summer holidays. We can travel from Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle etc much cheaper than flying from Scotland because the School holidays are different.

If you are travelling in the last weeks of August may I suggest checking the cost of the flights from Glasgow (for instance) as you may find them considerably cheaper - obviously, if this isn't an option, fair enough

Just been on a stag do to Budapest. Best man gave everyone the thumbs up to book their flights, 20 of us logged in (different computers) booked flights and the flight went from £120 in the morning when the best man booked his to over £200 for us lot all trying to book at the same time.

Another mate said he was coming 3 weeks later, booked the same flight which cost him £105!

Just amazes me how the prices can change so much for the same flight!?!?

I often wonder how deeply f*cked off some passengers must get when they compare flight prices with the passenger next to them. Surely it makes them very resentful?

Not that I've not had some bargains in the past? Remember the old auctions they used to have - had a 2 person holiday for £99 in Southern Spain and a 2 person holiday in Mojacar for £250 and a 2 person holiday to india for £600 back in 2002-2004. Ah, the good old days....

I don't know if it's true or not but I've heard it said their systems react to the activity and then reset overnight, so it may have been cheaper to the next day.

That said, which airline was it? The budget ones aren't supposed to ever go down in price otherwise everyone would wait until the last minute.

They're not much cheaper elsewhere plus you have costs on top and adding to the travel time with 3 kids? No thanks.

I posted about something similar earlier this year. Was looking to get wife and 3 kids to Malaga for 1 week at the start of August. Unless we were flying at 3am, (which isn't the best with a 5 year old) the flights were consistenly around £2,000. I monitored these over period of a couple of months, and they didn't change.

So in the end have tunred it into a mass road trip - Car to dover, ferry across the channel, then drive to Paris. Car goes onto train, we travel overnight on train to South of France. 4 days at a Euro Camp site. Long Haul to Malaga for 1 week, then return going back up to Santander - and get the ferry back to Portsmouth. Then drive bak to Lincs.

The advantage we had over the O/P is that I was able to take the extra week. But all the above, including fuel, road tolls, camping...the lot is about £200 less than the flights. So a bit of an adventure, plus some extra holiday - and during some parts of the journey's moany kids. But ho-hum, can't wait, should be a laugh. biglaughboxedin

I hear what you say about costs. We looked at flights to southern spain to get to a friends villa. Similar costs as you have posted. About £2300 iirc. It's actually cheaper for ne to hire a mates twin engine aircraft and fly us over there myself, pay the parking fees, and bring us back.

I'm amazed it could be cheaper. How many flying hours would that be?

Depends what route we take, but its south coast of england wheels up then we have a couple of choices. He's coming to though so it's turned into a bit of a jolly to be frank laugh I'll buy the fuel and the accom at the nightstop then it's all good.

Of to Cyprus in a fortnight with another mate to check out a twin he is thinking of buying, so if he does and I bring that back then we'll check out a route or two with our serious heads on then. If it makes it back. It's a heap and then some.

Ah, I looked at your profile and was assuming you'd be flying from Scotland.
