Calais - Berlin: Places to stop over?
Discussion
Hello!
So four mates and I are planning a little road trip to Berlin to deliver one of our number to his girlfriend's for the summer. We'll be driving from Calais on vaguely the route below, and were thinking of taking tents and stopping for a night or two each way. Does anyone have any suggestions of interesting/fun/pleasant things to do somewhere along the blue line? Obviously we can detour within reason!
Thanks in advance!
Ben

I drive that route on my way to Poland a couple of times per year, and Calais to Berlin is usually only an 8-9 hour drive, including periodic rest stops.
I don't particularly know of any fun things to do en route, although there is the VW AutoStadt in Wolfsburg, which is 20 mins off the A2 between Hannover and Magdeburg.

We did a similar drive last year.
On the way we stayed in Cologne. Very nice place, epic cathedral and some fun places to go out (apparently quite a popular destination for stag/hen parties now!). Some good art galleries too.
On the way back we stayed in Maastricht. Very very nice, has a very classy/upmarket feel to it. We only had one night there as it was en route to Dunkirk for the next day so I'm certainly keen to visit again.
