Myself, the OH and the 2 kids (ages 5 & 3) are going to Tenerife (staying in Costa Adeje) next Friday for 10 days. Having never been, i'd like to know the best things to do while we are there. We will have a car, so travelling around isn't a problem.

I've looked online there but is so much choice - Loro Park, Siam Park, Jungle Park, Aqualand, Monkey Park, trip to the volcano, etc, etc.

What do you guys recommend? Also where is the best place to get tickets? Over here or while we are there? I also understand that you can get VIP tickets where you can feed the animals, swim with sea lions or dolphins, etc. Anyone does those and are they worth it?

Any tips on anything else (best beaches, restaurants, different customs, etc.) while i'm there will be gratefully received. smile

Thanks

Wolff

Siam Park & Loro Park worth a visit (you can get a ticket which lets you into both).
The volcano is worth a trip, but try to pick a day that its not too windy up top, otherwise the cable car won't be working (and its €25 an adult return - not sure on kids prices, or if there is a family ticket). Quite a long drive up (you're going from sea level to over 2300 meters in the car!) with some great views, and you will probably drive through the clouds.
There's a few great roads for driving - head to the western most point - pretty spectacular road to the lighthouse, and a great mountain road back towards Los Gigantes!!

On the main beach for Costa Adeje is an Argentinian grill restaurant - very nice food. As is Dubai Cafe/Bar in the next bay towards Port Colon.

Don't buy the sunglasses from the Lucky Lucky men - they are the same as the ones in the tourist shops which sell for €5-ish!

Other than that, all I can really recommend is where to drink (I was there with a friend and no kids smile)

Siam Park has great "rides", and the wave pool is huge (look on youtube). Loro Park is a long drive, and they had a crap entry system, so we ended up stuck there for an hour.

The volcano is well worth a visit, but try to get a car with a decent engine. We had a fiesta with a tiny engine, and we were holding up coaches during the climb. Did the whole 30k 2000m climb is 1st and 2nd smile. Also, on the way back see how far you can get just coasting.

Thanks!

For the parks, where's the best place to get tickets? Online before we go over? From the holiday rep? From some ticket office over there? At the gate of the park?

What hotel are you staying at? I stayed at the Adeje Palace last time I went and thought it was great!

I quite liked going to Fañabe in the evening a few times, they have some arcades for your kids and the bars are friendly enough for them to sit with you as the boozing all goes on a little further down the beach in Las Americas.

I liked Loro Parque and thought Mt Teide was great, I'm pretty sure I ate some Belgian waffles there which were immense!

Enjoy.

Staying at the Fanabe Costa Sur Hotel. Looks nice online and has good reviews on trip advisor.

Another vote for Teidi, a facinating trip, seeing whole villages living above cloud level, and also looking down on aeroplanes. I'd definitely go again, but not sure I'd bother with the cable car final stage again, we only stayed up there for 10 mins or so.

So Loro Park, Mount Teide, anything else? Whale watching? Markets? Etc?

The submarine in golf del sur is quite interesting and there's a half decent scuba outfit down there too, loro park is good for the kids, but is a trek from the costa adeje area. Siam park is awesome for kids.

Loro Park is great and well worth it but it's on the northern side of the island.

Mount teide is fantastic on a nice day but out of season, being high up, it can get chilly on some days. Looks fantastic just driving through though.

Avoid the dolphin/whale watching from Los Gigantes - horrible rough harbour to get out of and we never saw one and came back very sea-sick.

Whale watching is okayish, we did it from Los Christianos harbour and saw loads, okay to do it once I'd say.

Markets are pretty dire places to be honest, I wouldn't go out of my way to visit one, and if you do, keep all personal posessions, wallets, purses, bags etc under close guard.

Make sure you do Siam...it readly is a great water park, especially if you have kids.

Top tip though, go straight to the wave pool and bag a sunbed on the front line. Then grab a locker for valuables (right next to the pool).

If you have young kids, then hang onto them in the wave pool. The waves can be fecking huge!

Agree with Siam park, it's superb.

Aqualand is the very old one. The images on line make it look really good, but it's not good value unfortunately and very old. Definitely go to Siam, it's great.

I'd say Loro Parque if you have kids.

The park is very good. The northern part of the island is very tropical and they have some good shows (orca's, dolphins, sea lions) and the Penguin area is the biggest I've seen this side of Florida.

You can catch a bus(titsa) from the south to the north(Puerto de la Cruz) it costs about €8. Then in Puerto De La Cruz there is a "Loro Parque" train which takes you round the streets and right to the entrance for free, just jump on at any stop (one outside Puerto de la Cruz bus station)

No, the first thing is to have a car there, driving around various parts of the island is too good to miss.

Fantastic public lido in Puerto de la Cruz. You are a bit of a drive from it but my boys loved it. Huge pools, run by the council so it was buttons to get in for the day and snacks were cheap. It's right on the seafront, you can see it on google earth.

Am i right in thinking that to get to the summit of Mount Teide, you need some kind of permit? Is that even if you are in the cable car or just if you are hiking up there?

If you do whale watching (we did it from the harbour up from Adeje - can't remember the name) try and get one of the smaller sailing catamarans rather than the big boats. We had pilot whales (I think) swim right under the boat about 2' from our feet dangling off the front of the hull. Also saw loads of dolphins and had a great time. The bigger boats were a little further away, you're much higher up and they're packed.
