I will be flying from a non-EU country (Angola) transitting through Schiphol onroute to Aberdeen.
If I buy alcohol, I have something specific in mind which seems good value, am I still limited to the 1 litre maximum, or does the EU limit of whatever you like for your own consumption apply ?

If it makes a difference my ticket will be a self printed one ticket for both flights, which I suspect will mean the 'from outside EU' limits will apply.

I looked on the .gov website and found this statement
"For passengers who are in transit and changing flights in an EU airport there are set conditions that apply regarding liquids, including any duty-free purchases you've made"

But I couldn't find what those set conditions were.

I bought a bottle of whisky in Luanda a few years ago, no problem in joeberg, but they refused it on the plane at Singapore so its not just the customs,

You can buy what you like (within reason) inside Europe as it'll of been taxed already. The actual duty-free is very limited.

In some transit airports you can have a problem if you have anything over 100ml. This sometimes depends on the destination - don't try it if you are going to Australia, for example.

I am not planning on bringing anything from Angola, plan is to buy Flor De Cana 18 year old at Schiphol, concern is that as I am travelling from outside the EU I would ony be allowed 1 litre, the .gov site is not clear (to me).

But as my wife would say, what's they point of buying that, you will just drink it.

You can buy duty free at Schipol on arrival from oustside the UK I do it reguler, Kl to Schip and on to Cardiff, the passport check is at Schipol to enter the EU, so I liter from outside the EU, (Schip duty free) then I assume legal to bring into the UK, never had a problem.
Thereis no problem with the 100mm as the 'seal the bag' at duty free, however as I said above, Singapore did not accept the Luanda seal.

You can buy it it Singapore transit lounge and take it through security, they put it in a tamperproof bag in the shop, did it a few weeks ago.

OP's journey as follows ...

LAD -> AMS -> ABZ

At AMS, he will remain airside.

His question regards the volume of spirits he can but at AMS and bring through ABZ.

My take is that, had he gone land-side at Amsterdam, he could have bought whatever he can carry or safely fit in to checked luggage. In this case, his purchases would be "duty paid".

The fact that he is just transiting through AMS and remaining airside, however, means that his purchases will be subject to "duty free" rules and he will hence be limited to 1000ml.

I may be wrong.

Cheers,

My take is he can buy as much as he is allowed to carry at AMS, but he will be buying it under inside-EU rules (ie no duty free pricing).

The question can be treated as if the OP was only flying AMS-ABZ.

This would be my understanding too.

Yes, indeed, thinking about it, that's correct.

I suppose it now depends on which price he spotted.
