car hire in Italy, groogh
Discussion
I've rented in Italy a few times, pre-booked from airports usually either Avis or Hertz. Never had any problems. If you speak Italian you'll find local outfits cheaper. Italian public transport is very good and cheap. Depending where you are going it might be less stressful to to Train/Bus/Taxi it, a lot cheaper too.
PS they close early during August as it's Ferragosto, the annual Italian holiday.

Thanks for that, sadly they don't operate out of Pescara, shame. I've just in the last five minutes booked a Punto from Hertz through the Saga scheme for £143 a week. There'll be extras to pay on that for unsocial office hours etc, and I'm supposed to get a free additional driver included in that but Hertz Cust Service says I'll have to pay for it (?), suppose I'll cross those bridges when I get to them. It is an Italian Nation Sport of getting one over on Car Rental Customers.
We had a guy who wnet skiing and lost his keys...the rental car company said they didnt have any spares and charged him for 2 weeks rental while they got new keys from Renault...all while his belongings were still inside the car!
