Besides Pompeii, Capri, etc, is there much more to do?
Me and the gf are there for a week next month, staying on a B&B basis (as we're in the middle of Sorrento), so will £1000 be enough? We're wanting to go to Capri, Pompeii/Vesuvius/Herculaneum, maybe a trip down the coast, but mostly just mooching around the town enjoying the food and drink, etc.

Wife and I went to Sorrento two years ago, stayed in the Tremantano Hotel which is in the centre of Sorrento and an excellent hotel and base. We went to Pompeii (been to Herculaneum before) and did an organised day trip to Ischia, all good. Get the train to Pompeii: it's straightforward. Get on a guided tour too while you're there as it's vast and there's lots to see.

Ischia was good, worth a visit, a bit like Naples-on-Sea.

We did not rate Sorrento very highly compared to other places we've been to in Italy. Too many people off cruise ships, everywhere is crowded, and eating and stopping for a beer etc is very expensive compared to other palces we've been to in Italy.

A taxi from Naples Airport to Sorrento is also expensive, although the journey can be done with public services: airport-docks-ferry-Sorrento-hotel. Lots of people seemed to be doing this.

Have fun.

I like Sorrento, but Amalfi and Positano are nicer (especially Positano)

I was really disappointed with Capri last September - massively overcrowded and simply a pain in the arse. If you take the people away, it is a lovely island though!

Wouldn't bother with Naples, but if you do and go by train from Sorrento, keep your wits about you with kids nicking bags etc.

Hope that doesn't sound too negative - Sorrento and othe places along the Amalfi coast are lovely.

Enjoy.

We stayed in a little village called Scala, up the hill from Amalfi.

Amalfi is worth a visit as it is beautiful.

Ravello is a nice place while you're in the area.
They have concerts if that's your thing.

Stayed in a hotel just outside Sorrento in May for 10 days this year.

Will a £1000 be enough? - depends what your spending habits are like - plenty of expensive shops and restruants to burn £1k on in a week - but its also possible to have a great time, eat well, see somethings for half that.

Sorrento is lovely - providing there aren't too mant cruise ships in - the old fishing harbour is nice and was quite when we visited - think it was a bit far for people to walk down to - look for the restruant run by a fishermans co-op, the best sea-food, at great prices.

Pompei is worth a visit, so is Herculaneum - try not to pick a really hot day.

We didn't make it to Capri - couldnt see the point in the ferry prices.

Instead took a bus or train around - Massa Lubrense is worth a visit - lovely old town a bit off the tourist trail for the cruise ship tours.

The best transfer is a coach that runs direct from Naples airport to Sorrento - only about 20 euro.

I wouldn't bother with Capri for a day trip. If you can, stay a night there, it's lovely once all the day trippers have gone back!

We went to Capri on a day trip, it was overpriced. I live in Oslo.
