You have morals about reviews on TA? Seriously? Take the free offer and delete the review. Job jobbed all round.

Buggered if giving them card details over the phone though, tell em to leave the payment for the last time as it was, you will just take the free weekend.

Im not cheap...but I absolutely can be bought smile

Surely most people ignore the top and worse reviews and read the ones in the middle to get a more balanced opinion?

Not hard to find the OP's review in that is it.

Top sleuthing! hehe
I'm obviously no internet sleuth.

However, whilst poking around on TA I came across the Devonport House hotel. They certainly know how to use the reviews to their advantage.

Oh, and the other fun thing on TA - notice how Indian restaurants seem to get the best reviews all the time?
Extended family post glowing reviews. Check out Manzil's Southampton for some comedy ones!

Assuming it's the right one I've just read your review.

It doesn't read that badly in my opinion.

The place looks like it's been built as an office block though.

I am confused, it seems to me that these guys are trying to compensate you for your dissatisfaction as best they can, not sure why that seems to be a problem?

And yes I have read all the posts.
Basically, we get a free night there......if we take down the review.

thanks for the PM

you're concerned for the Hotel's anonymity, why did you post the trip advisor review in the first place, and spell out the location and all the details of the complaint in this thread? "you must feel very pleased with yourself"

protecting your own anonymity, more like
My review, my choice to post it here or not. If people wanted to read it they can click on over to TA and search for it.
Like I said, anyone could work it out if they wanted to but I stopped short of "spelling out the location" as you suggest I did, partly to avoid any Naming and Shaming issues, partly to give the hotel at least a fighting chance. But oh no, Hugo a Ego has other ideas.
Didn't need you to wade in. So perhaps you'd now wade out again?

Since the owner has further embarrassed himself by getting in touch yet again with a weak bribe I suspect any advice is a little wasted now, so I guess we'll call it a day.....

get over yourself
one click, vs a couple of clicks and typing 'jewsons london'
Yeah the difference being people would have to make the decision to go looking and bother figuring it out, as opposed to someone with absolutely no involvement in the entire episode ramming it right under their noses.
How many Fs in "tact"? Who the feck are you anyway? The Morality Internet Police?

If I was contacted in a similar manner I would feel rather uneasy about it. You've left an honest review and that's that. The quality of TA relies on honesty. You get the odd rogue review but you have to look at the overall general trend, and how many reviews people have done etc.

Take the free night and hammer frozen sausages into his lawn!

He'll think twice before offering any more bribes in the future.

Trip Advisor is full of those nasally Nigels that expect five star service for three star prices, in my experience.

I do, sort of. You can look at the graph thing and get a rough idea of what the average is.

I'd also give the TripAdvisor Rating more "weight" the more reviews it has - so a place that has 1000s of reviews is likely to be depicted more accurately than a place reviewed by just a couple.

I think TA is a boon to holidaymakers tbh, it's great getting to know which restaurants and hotels have a good reputation when you go to a new place smile
