Off to Rhodes next week and will need a mode of transport.

Any recommendations on a repuable hire firm with reasonable conditions?

http://www.economycarrentals.co.uk/ used them all over Greece in the past few years. There'll be 2 prices for each car, we always pay a bit more for the zero excess then there's nothing else to worry about. They're an agent and we've had cars from Europcar, Auto Union and I think Alamo through them, always hassle free.

We've just come back from Rhodes and our car hire was through Europcar, who have an 'outlet' at the airport. Ours was booked through the package holiday with Thomson so I'm not sure of their rates. Plenty of towns have their own independent car hire businesses though.

Where abouts are you going to?

Thanks all.

We're staying in Afandou but will be arriving at Rhodes Airport late evening with no transfer so thought it best to get a car from there?

I've read some horror stories regarding excesses and general underhand behaviour from some companies which I would like to avoid.

The site I mentioned above is £122 for a Citroen C1 for a week from Rhodes airport, or £135 for the same car on a zero excess policy. Includes additional driver and out of hours pick up and drop off. Bear in mind, car hire in Greece in general isn't cheap like it is in Spain/Portugal etc.

Having recently been stung by letting Mrs Tunes arrange a hire car in that general neck of the woods, I'd only go for Hertz/Avis/Europcar/Budget. In fact, same applies anywhere in the world.

Ours turned out to be a complete shed (I would have rejected it, but I'd waited with the kids at the airport for the wife to go and pick it up - having been lied to about it being "on airport" at the time of booking) and was missing the pre-booked satnav.
