Going back to Tignes next week. Was/am quite prepared to ski the Motte in the mornings and spend the afternoons in the Loop or the Marmot but they've had about 8" fresh today in Les Boisses - what that translates to up the glacier remains to be seen!

10cm of fresh in Cham today and 50-60cm more forecast over the week. There's life in this winter yet. Just a shame I'm ending my season tomorrow.

Its not that uncommon to have a death throws dump.... Some of the best days skiing ive had have been once all the tourists have buggered off!

I'm tempted to do a few midweek days cheap somewhere, I assume finding resorts with open lifts is an issue..

Fresh turns for 1,000m of vertical off the top of Grand-Montets this morning. With the current forecast for the week ahead it should be awesome conditions the following week.

IIRC the late results are Cham, Tignes, VDI and Val Thorens.

In a daring break from our usual Courchevel fixation, we've just booked a chalet in Tignes for Christmas and the New Year!

I'm in Morzine at the moment and was in avoriaz today. Plenty of snow left and the lifts are open for another week. Cheap as well - €130 for a week's liftpass.

Grand-Montets (Argentiere) in Chamonix is open until at least 5th May. With what's forecast this week I think you'll have some good skiing there.

Got back from tignes val claret on Saturday . It's going to be hard work this week if you are going out. The snow was still falling as we left but it really needs to fall for a few days to give some decent depth. It was up around 16 degrees most afternoons this week so it was a total slush fest by about 12 o'clock.
The piste badgers are doing a great job at night but it's still like sheets of glass on the runs. Our reps said they've never seen so many injuries as this past week - pistes go from slush to glass within a couple of feet.
The cable car at the top of toviere that goes up to grande motte was closed pretty much every day this week due to high winds. It did tend to open up for the last couple of hours for a few days.

The high runs over to val are not bad at all but understandably very busy. The runs down into val are starting to close. We took santon down to val on weds and there was more grass, mud and rocks than there was snow.

Take it easy out there this week.

We said today that this was going to be our last ski of the season at stubai. Reasonable conditions, a bit soft in places but I think it will still be ski-able in another month!

Strapped in for the last run of my season yesterday. SWMBO snapped this one riding down the Argentiere Glacier from the top of Grand-Montets, Chamonix. Fresh turns and everything. After such a drought it feels a shame to be heading back just as it starts dumping again, but it should stay good for those chancing a late-season ski.

Such a wonderful backdrop for a last run of the season.

Thanks for this. I did make the booking with my eyes wide open so I'm prepared for a bar break. Had some great trips already this season. Last year we went a week ago (if you see what I mean!) and had awesome conditions. Luck of the draw!

I got some pictures from a friend of mine in Val D'Isere skiing off piste in a good foot or two of powder. I suspect you might have a blinding week! Nothing much happened in Morzine so we are just on the general slide in to summer.

Enjoy!

Has anyone done any summer skiing in the alps and if so would you recommend it/is it worth it? December seems such a long way off right now! smile
