Hi, we have always wanted to go, primarily for the history and in searching around for a city break later this year I have stumbled across what feels to be a pretty good deal at £600 pp for 3 nights. I've looked at Rome in the past and hotel costs alone are pretty steep! So the question is what do we think the weather would be like in early November? The package includes tickets to Vatican Museum, the Colosseum and the Sistine Chapel - anywhere else we should head to? And finally can we have a restaurant recommendation....! ta very much

Who knows with the weather. We went one November and it was 20's all the time we were there. We were in T shirts and the Romans were freezing in big puffer jackets.

Can't help you with the weather but we were there for 2 nights recently on a driving tour of Europe. After the disaster of a meal on the first night where we thought we would find somewhere local and authentic we asked the concierge at the hotel for a good restaurant for the last night and we were so pleased that we did as it was the highlight of the stay.

Look up Pierluigi, Rome.

Absolutely buzzing atmosphere, great staff and great food. Just what we wanted. It’s not cheap but not expensive either compared to other places and was certainly cheaper than the hotel where a bottle of Heineken was 11 euros and a club sandwich was 38!

We didn’t do the Vatican as we only had one full day on the ground so chose to walk the majority of the city north of the River. Trevi Fountain, Spanish steps and Coliseum were the main attractions we took in and they were stunning apart from the Spanish steps which I wasnt bothered by at all. Shame about the severely disabled beggars everywhere and what I think were Moroccans constantly trying to sell you crap. If you are with your good lady they will try to give her a rose ‘free of charge’, do not in any circumstances take hold of it as they will follow and pester you until you give them some money. I guess it just brings home what a great well rounded country we live in.

Plenty of things to do in Rome.

Go up to the top of St Peter's, the castle across the way is interesting too.

It depends how much time you have really, there is a lot to see, but not a huge amount to do if that makes sense? However, if you are there for a little while or have already seen the 'main' things there are lots of small museums hidden down back streets. The museum of criminology was my favourite, free entry too, but there are loads of others.

Restaurant recommendation, most are very good once you get away from the main tourist areas. Just walk onto the back streets and chose one of those. My favourite, I forget its name, but is here:

35 Piazza del Fico, Rome, Lazio, Italy

Its the 'cheaper' one there as I believe an expensive one has opened across the way. Excellent value for money from that one though. Dont discount the 'pizza bars' either - they are great for grabbing a bite to eat during the day.
