Not sure if you pronounce the J or not.
Thought I'd take the girls away for a little holiday.

I've never been before, a place called Palma Nova. Off tomorrow.

Other than the water not tasting what it outta, does anyone have any opinions or recommendations on the place?

Cheers

Palma Nova is a nice spot, ive stayed there more times than i can remember, what hotel are you in? With it being October things will be winding down as the season ends first week of Nov but there should still be plenty open. Weather wise go prepared for a bit of everything, can still be hot enough to get burnt on the beach but possibility of thunderstorms but theyre usually short lived.

Worth a trip into Palma and a trip on the electric Soller Railway up to Soller (park in the safe parking behind the station though).

The Panama's in a good spot 5 mins from the beach with lots of restaurants and bars nearby which youll wander by on the way to the beach. Things to do wise Pirates is still open for a good evening but its not cheap, also Marineworld is a quick hop on the 104 bus which runs along the beach front road and is good to while away a few hours. You"ll not be short of things to do, any questions fire away.

I stayed in Palma Nova, though my hotel wasn't great, it was a family place with a Flinstones theme which I thought was a bit bizarre.

But Majorca itself was nice, a highlight would be the Cathedral of Light in La Palma. Some nice beaches, just don't stray too far west in the early evening as you'll end up in Magaluf, bad.

Mallorca is very much an island of two halves.

We tend to go to the Pollenca area in the North East, which is stunning and a totally different world from Magaluf

Yes, in general the south-west corner is not one I have visited or particularly want to. We like Cala D'Or and most of the rest of the island.

The hotel is all inclusive, 3 star. I've been spoilt and it's just not my bag.
We're very close to Magaluf, maybe I'm over exagurating.
The pool is small and dominated by the children, if you don't get up at 8.00am and put a towel down you can forget about getting a sunbed.
The free booze isn't the best. The staff use the Vodka to dissinfect the work surfaces.
We're eating out all the time now as the food is crap.
The night entertainment is awful.
I don't find I can gel on any level whatsover with anyone here.

But, the room is ok. Apart from the living in Cricket which looks like a cockroach that hides behind the toilet and keeps us up at night singing his love dance to fellow cockroach looking crickets outside.

I killed him yesterday.

We decided not to rent a car which I think was a mistake, the first few days were very overcast, the streets were bare, but the last few days the sun has broken out and brought a new lease of life to the holiday.
We did the catamaran boat ride this afternoon and as the sun came out from behind the clouds had a chance to truly smile as we dived from the boat into the water and took in some lovely sights.
Definately a place of two halves.

We are in the greasy cafe area with specialist shops whos expertise is key rings and t-shirts saying 'If you've never been to Majorca you are a '.

Anyhow, the world looks a better place when the sun comes out and today, the sun came out. smile

hehe You chose a 3* all inclusive in Majorca and expected the food not to be crap?

Ditto evening entertainment?

In fact, is ANY evening entertainment good on holiday, no matter what the star rating? biggrin

Hope the sun stays out. smile

If you fancy a day trip, I can strongly recommend a trip to Beach Club Gran Follies at Cala Llamp.

It's only about a 20 minute taxi ride from where you are and is most agreeable.

If you want some real fun and see the real Majorca at the same time, hire a decent car, drive over to Soller then take the stunning mountain road over the mountains and turn off to Sa Calobra for lunch. Then drive over to Porta Pollensa stopping off at Luc Monastry.

I would defy anyone to do this and then never return to this most beautiful part of the island again.

Thats more like it!.

Yeah, 3 star, last minute book and see what happens. Not exactly the wisest move. First and last time.

Yes, sadly the tourist areas are the ones to avoid. This is why I always rent a villa and hire a car though it's fair to say I don't gel with anyone, not even my wife. the island can also be raining one side and super sunny the other so it pays to drive.

Some years ago Peugeots TV advertising featured the Sa Calobra road being driven by one of their perceived "faster" models.

Almost a mini Stelvio Pass for sure...!
