Playa Blanca, Lanzarote: What is there to do?
Discussion
I'm going to Lanzarote in a week and will be staying in Las Colorados which is about a mile from Playa Blanca. Does anybody know of any interesting places and things to do nearby? I'm not hiring a car so anything within walking distance woukd be great.
I'm going to take my DSLR as I've neglected my photography for a while so any recommendations for good photo opportunities are welcome!
Thanks.

It's a town that has embraced the "all inclusive" hotel & therefore the least interesting of all lanza's resorts. The marina rubicon is quite nice though.
I lived on the island for 3 years & just went back there for a break at the beginning of this month, to be honest at this time of year you will likely get one cloudy day & seeing as you can hire a car for less than €30 a day you should really get out there & experience the islands unique landscapes. Timanfaya is like being on another planet, the north is where the big surf is at & if modern art is you bag Cesar Manrique's house is fantastic!
It's a small but fantastic island & when you can drive the entire circumstance of it in less than a day, why sit around the hotel for a week with such magnificent surroundings

El Golfo is not far - a black sand beach with lovely rock formations and plenty of lava fields surrounding it (they used it in the 10 Million Years BC Raquel Welch film along with Tenerife). Some great wave-crashing action.
The Timanfaya National Park is also not too far but it's a coach trip round the main area which is bad for photography.
Papagayo is rather over-rated IMHO.

Oh & by the way, the beaches nearby where you're staying (the papagayo coves) are fantastic but be careful which cove you choose to take your camera to-they're known for their more "natural" bathing habits!
I might try the boat to Fuerteventura idea. Should be good for a day trip.

Not cheap unfortunately. that was what stopped us doing it plus you just end up in Corralejo without a car and that's not really much different. You might find a tour company offering a day out in Furteventura by coach, there's several companies going the other way from Furteventura to Lanzarote.
If you've not been to Furteventura I'd bite the bullet and take the car. Drive from Corralejo to El Cotillo, have a early lunch at the Azurro restaurant on the beach just north of the town then go up the mountains to Bentancuria and on to Pajara and back to Corralejo on the coast road and spend whatever time you have left on the dunes. That'll give you a flavour of the island which is completely different to Lanzarote.
Epic almost deserted hooning roads inland too

I would think only Playa del Carmen offers nightclubs. There is one in Costa Teguise which looked terrible from the outside.
I was thinking more bars than nightclubs. I can't be arsed to stay out until 6am anymore. I arrived here yesterday and I'm not impressed. Its very windy, overcast and has rained.
The hotel is fully booked but is situated in the middle of a ghost town. For miles in every direction are row after row of identical empty white houses. I must have walked for about two miles last night and didn't see a single car or person. Even the tat shops are empty. Because everything is brand new it reminds me of an abandoned Mexico-inspired theme park. Its an urban explorer's wet dream.
The idea of renting a bike appeals to me so I can cycle far far away!
On the plus side the nearby mountains look great, the beer is free and I'm not at work...
