its always worth hiring a car in lanzarote. Usually only about £65 from the airport for a week. Have stayed in that same area but the car made it fine. Also luckily i was only in the area for 2 days as I tend to move around hotels to save boredom

We are back in March for a return visit great temperature with two small kids and we are renting a villa with pool to avoid the great unwashed, we can also do our own cooking when we like.

As others have said the beaches down the coast are ok, ideally get a boat shuttle there or via car. El Golfo is great and you can get a great fish meal there! national park is ok again you need a car to get there or bus from the centre of town.

You can hire road bikes from a shop next to the children's pirate ship play area in town. The coast road up toward El Golfo would provide good photo opportunities.

Thanks for the heads up on hire cars from the airport I will try and book direct!

The hotel is fully booked but is situated in the middle of a ghost town. For miles in every direction are row after row of identical empty white houses. I must have walked for about two miles last night and didn't see a single car or person. Even the tat shops are empty. Because everything is brand new it reminds me of an abandoned Mexico-inspired theme park. Its an urban explorer's wet dream.
Great description!

Recently went for a week's holiday in Playa Blanca, and know what you mean. Went out for dinner a couple of times in the Marina Rubicon nearby, and it was a ghost town.

Still, great for photography as others have said, and our hotel (Princesa Yaiza) had fantastic pools and stuff for kids which our two year old son loved. We had limited expectations for the holiday (sun, relaxation, manageable flight time) and it delivered on those.
