Looking for a good (car friendly!) location near NYC
Discussion
Hi,
I'm planning on heading to NYC for a few days before travelling on to the west coast. My current plan is to hire a car for the week or so I'm there as I plan to travel down to DC/Philly too (plus it means transfers to/from the airport are so much easier).
Does anyone have any recommendations of where to stay near NYC that has good commuting access to Manhattan and a range of reasonable (cost-wise) hotels?
Cheers for any advice!

If you want to avoid paying parking then look at something around Secaucus NJ. The hotels have free shuttles to Secaucus NJ Transit/Amtrak station and it is then nonstop by NJ transit into NY Penn station in midtown. Or you are a straight shot on Rt 3 into the Lincoln tunnel if you want to drive in. Hotels in that area are Holiday Inn, Marriott, Hilton Meadowlands, and there is a long stay place next door to the Hilton but the name escapes me.
If you don't mind paying for parking then look at downtown Jersey City which is a short walk to the PATH train to Manhattan. Marriott, Westin, Hyatt fall into that category. The Candlewood Suites in Jersey City used to not charge for parking and it a short walk to the Exchange Place PATH - not sure if that is still the case?
Thanks for the info. I've also spotted a place up in Harlem that looks interesting - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g60763-d... - seems to be parking available nearby.
