Anybody been? Looking at february. Wife wants sun, i fancy a go at skiing.
Looks like it has everything, including driving in the snow too.

Both ski beginners so not looking for black runs just a place to wobble around in the snow, with a touch of sunshine too.

Failing that anywhere cheap to try skiing? (wifey can always use a sunbed)

Never heard of skiing in Cyprus!

However, Lebanon is meant to be superb for a bit of Sun and Skiing, and not too far from Cyprus.

Looks pretty similar to Cyprus setup.

Surprised nobody has been.

I've been up to Troodos in the summer, but never been there in the winter

I know a few people who used to live in Cyprus who used to do the "ski in the morning / swim in the afternoon" trick

I imagine the snow will not be brilliant, but if you treat it in the same way that you would a snow dome, as you say just a place to give it a go then I imagine it would be quite fun

Great view as well from up there

I wouldn't bother. The snow only lasts for a few weeks and there is only two short runs. The lifts are 30 years old too.

The sea in the Med is only 15-16 in the winter months of jan/feb when there is snow in this region.

I've been up Troodos on Christmas day!

I wouldn't bother. It's a lovely spot but for skiiing? Nah as above, two runs, maybe three by now and you're done. And yes, it wasn't all that warm back on the beach either.

I wouldn't bother for the skiing, runs are short and limited at the very best, equipment makes stuff in the eastern block look almost new, weather is anything but snow sure.

Cheap skiing Romania and Bulgaria are both good for deals as the cost of instruction and lift passes are far cheaper than the alps, however I wouldn't book far in advance as the snow is a little hit and miss. Andorra is another lower cost option although you will pay more for your lessons pass equipment hire etc.

If cheap is a factor, you'll struggle to do better then this place. It's basic, very basic in fact but warm, dry, plenty of booze, lots of one pot cooking for the food, and right on the edge on Espace Killy. And yes, it is a mate of mine who owns it. smile

I skied there a number of times when I was posted to RAF Episkopi in the 1990s. Very, very limited, but very novel.

IIRC, it was February time and as said above, lasted only for a few weeks.

I've done it, also whilst posted there.

It's more of a novelty than a real holiday option. Skiing isn't great, and the weather isn't good enough then for a 'sun' holiday.

All that said, it's a great destination well out of season, but don't go there expecting decent sun and decent snow in the winter. The best time for Cyprus is May.

I've not skiied in Cyprus but I reckon you'd be much better off in Southern Spain. Proper skiing in the Sierra Nevada and you could leave it until March to have a better chance of warmer weather down in the resorts. I've been to Spain in Jan/Feb/March and been lucky with the weather high 60s in the former and low 70s in March.

Does the wife realise that you can sunbathe on top of mountains? Even down to her bikini if the weather is right wink
