Evening chaps. I've been given one of these 'city break for two' vouchers as a gift, which has a choice of destinations, having not been to any except Madrid and Barcelona i was hoping fellow PHers could make some recommendations, given you're such a well travelled bunch.

Sicily, venice, rome, milan, barcelona, madrid, berlin, hungary, prague, andorra, slovakia, naples, malaga, florence

Caveats:
- wife is with child, due date 1st may, so short flight or reasonable drive (for someone that hasn't driven on the continent before) would be preferred. As would something more 'picturesque' than having loads of stuff to do, as she will be quite limited.

- hotels are from a select list, most seem to be out of centres too. So perhaps which of these has the best public transport/surrounding area.

All we've got to sort is flights/travel, so any recommendations are welcome.

When are you hoping to travel? Most airlines won't fly a heavily pregnant woman due to obvious reasons.

i'd pick Rome, naples has been having issues with rubbish collections for a few years.

Barca. It's the default destination for most city breaks as it's so good. It's my fave.

Barcelona is great, as is Budapest (if I assume correctly that this is the city in mind when they mention Hungary). I can't speak for some of the Italian cities, but as you quite rightly point out, I'd be conscious of your OH's mobility and what you can actually get around to see.

For most of them I'd imagine you're going to have to fly, as driving to some of the closer destinations probably won't be as convenient as you'd want it to be.

Out of the places you've listed I've been to Rome, Berlin and Prague. Berlin and Prague were around this time of year and Rome was in June this year. Assuming you'll be going in the next couple of months due to the upcoming arrival (congratulations) I would recommend going to Berlin.

Prague and Rome I would say are more Spring/Summer/Autumn destinations. With Berlin you could possibly get the train to with a couple of connections.

There is a lot to do in all three cities though and I would love to go to any of them again.

I would go to Florence, train to Venice for the day and treat the good lady to a romantic time in Venice- make her feel special.
Nothing can compare to the atmosphere of Florence and Venice with intimate meals and hotels.

Consider Temperature your heavily pregnant otherhalf may not appreciate or tollerate high temperatures, I did Lake Garda with my pregnant wife and the 30's temperatures meant she was suffering and we saw and did less than we had hoped. I'd be looking more at Paris, Berlin, Prague, Budapest where you can spend time chilling in a cafe or watching the world go by from a bus/car tour of the city.

hmmm... wobble

Anyway, I'd go for somewhere fairly compact, to avoid walking around too much. From the places you've listed Prague would be my choise

Thanks for the input all. We decided on Venice, but had a look at the hotels available through the voucher - the nearest hotel was 30 minutes taxi ride from the centre and had a trip advisor rating of one.

Having looked through the hotels the prague and rome ones look by far and away the best, so we'll probably be going there.

Thanks again all!

I live in Prague - public transport there is tremendous. You have the 3 line underground system, buses and trams. You can buy a ticket for < £1 and use it as much as you want for 90 minutes. I guess the price isn't particularly important... but it can get you anywhere you need to go, its quick and reliable. If you have info on the exact hotel or area you can stick it up here and I'll try and give you some more specific info.
