In the excitement of booking two flights for me and a mate for a boy's weekend away in Amsterdam, I didn't notice I had selected the wrong departure date until after I had paid and confirmed the purchase.

I immediately amended this online, and was charged £70 for the pleasure, which was just a touch less than the cost of a return ticket! This put me in a complete grump as although I really had nobody except myself to blame for the mistake, the charges did seem completely disproportionate to the price of the ticket.

I tried to call Easyjet, but it was too late to get through, so I fired over an email explaining that I'd made a mistake, that I had rectified the booking immediately, and being the season of goodwill could they help out. Amazingly I received a call the next day from a lovely lady who said they'd be refunding the extra charge, as I had clearly made a mistake and had taken steps to fix it immediately.

I was fully expecting the "Computer Says No" treatment, so thank you Easyjet for delighting me and removing the black cloud that would have been hanging over me.

To be fair I've never had any issue with Easyjet, they have always been more than adequate in their service, and in many ways are incredibly convenient and offer great value.

I wonder if other airlines would have been so accommodating?

I'm liking Easyjet now, having just forgiven them for taking over Go. Far better than Ryan Air.

Having said that I made a similar mistake last year, and ended up just buying a new ticket - it was cheaper than changing the flight.

Good result smile

I do wonder whether Ryanair / EJ websites are designed specifically to confuse.....

I thought exactly that too, £35 per amendment seems an "easy" income stream. I had selected, without thinking, a slightly (£2) cheaper flight when presented with the flight options, which turned out to be the same flight the day before.

I went back to see how I did it and for the stupid (me) and hard of seeing I can see how it was quite easy to make a mistake. Plus at the end of the transaction, while batting away pages and tickboxes offering you optional extras it's easy to overlook the actual flight details you are supposed to be confirming until too late.

All in all, I am delighted Easyjet used some discretion, but I did wonder how many end up paying more than they were expecting too.

Just done this with Thomson except I got told to go away as they couldn't be seen to give preferential treatment. No problem says me, as I'll just spend all my money on Holidays and flights with other companies. I said thanks for their understanding and they could be assured they would never have to deal with me ever again.

Had a similar experience with Sixt for car hire. Booked for the wrong dates, immediately called to change it and they said they would do it for free as I had made the booking so recently. It's nice when companies forgo charges like that!

Great and very refreshing to read something nice about a budget airline.

I had major issues with Thomson, I had 2 bags booked on a holiday and paid to add a third to increase our allowance, but apparently adding a bag doesn't increase your allowance - it just spreads it over 3 bags and you have to buy extra allowance at the extortionate normal rate. Kept complaining and got nothing but "computer says no" so vowed never to use them ever again too smile
