Amsterdam short break
Discussion
I'm aiming for two nights away with Wifey (without the kids) for a Friday to Sunday trip.
I've not been to Amsterdam for over 10 years and want to see the newly reopened Rijksmuseum. Any recommendations for a mid priced hotel and any restaurant/bars more suited to a forty something than a 25 year old lads' stag party...
Any advice appreciated!

We stayed here, http://www.okura.nl/en/ short tram ride to centre and walking distance to the museum. We were there 2 nights but ate in city centre - loads there.
If you choose it ask for a room high up over looking the city - lovely place.

Used this one a couple of years ago : http://www.hotelnottinghill.nl/en/ Not exactly central, but a very nice place and handy for the trams too. The "Roots" cafe across the bridge from it was an interesting experience too - emphasis on foraging, hunting and local seasonal produce.
We go over most years for Queen's Day (now King's Day). Usually stay here for 3-4 nights :-

Canal side and peaceful, we tend to walk everywhere.

You don't mention budget for food...but if it's for something special...try here. Been a long time since I went but it was great and I think still gets good reviews. I think you will need to book.
