And if it isn't, why not just pick the closest and we can move on?

Sounds like the done thing.

Well, Castel del Monte was the town where The American was shot but my pic was taken a few miles away in http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Santo_Stefano_di_Sess... (destination of last year's road trip).

So, Castel del Monte was the closest guess.

Next!

Might we have been blowing doors off shortly before this?

View across the 1st tee of the Brabazon from outside the conservatory unless I'm mistaken?

Ooooh... that's new since I went!

I think that's the 1st hole of the Brabazon in the background?
That's right, they are taken from pretty much the same place but a 90 degree angle to each other.
(Obviously no prizes for recognition of it though, The Belfry was enough.)
If we're being super-precise, I think it's the 1st tee and hole of the PGA National, rather than the Brabazon.

Here is one with some vintage, my best guess is that it's from late 1930's. (I wasn't there, but my father was).

The ruins in the background look like Uphill church but the rest doesn't.

It's British Isles (holidays in foreign countries didn't really happen back then).
