I was taking it for the North/South sign, which tickled me. We don't have signs like that where I'm from.

York is very close, so maybe you're one of those nerdy types you mention?

I'm not a sign spotter. Using my powers of deduction I recognise the stone as similar to that commonly found in Yorkshire, I figured that it had to be somewhere with quick access to a north south A road as opposited to a motorway, and that it had to be somewhere that warrants a tourist information centre. My surname really is Holmes!

The second photo is much better, I found where that was through google but won't say as that's against the rules.
