I will update when home for lunch. Old faithful inn is an easy one if you've been there! Impressive place to stay , even with the mice running around the room!

Didn't stay there, just went for a very poor meal, it was booked out so stayed at the Snow Lodge. Quite glad we did in the end, looked hot in the rooms, most windows were open with fans on the go when we wandered by. But then it was sub zero at night, bonkers weather, sun burn in the day and freeze yer cobblers off at night.

Yes, agreed on the food point. It's an old place that's not exactly been modernised though, so it's a little rough and not posh for staying in! Food in national parks in the US is generally of disappointment though. It's somewhat surprising really.

We stayed at the Lake hotel to start with and the food was overpriced for what it was. Second night we cottoned on to the cheaper hotel across the road and the food was very good and excellent value. OK it was form a line at the counter with a tray but nothing wrong with it for the price and being the US, no problem with the portions.

Nope.

It's in Iceland as above, but i'd like the name, or as close to it as you can guess, as it's not easy to spell biggrin I'd even take it's vague location on the island (something closer than 'Iceland' smile).

I know it because it's on one of the major salmon river systems and I've seen lots of photos by fishermen back from their travels and I do know it ends in forss or foss or very similar but I can't tell you any more, without the mighty G, I'm afraid.

It's a bit like High Force in Yorkshire on acid though smile

Yeah, i'll give you that smile Dettifoss.

It's big (biggest in Europe in terms of flow), and being Iceland there are zero safety rails, so you can get as close as you want. It's in northern Iceland, and to get there you have to go down a really long dirt road (most roads in Iceland outside of towns, and off the ring-road are like this). It's the one used at the start of Prometheus too.

Foss means waterfall, so most of the falls end in that, eg. Godafoss, Skogafoss, Svartifoss, etc... smile

I'd encourage everyone to go to Iceland. It's only a few hours flight away, and is the kind of place that looks ridiculously amazing wherever you go.
