Airport to hotel transfer - Venice
Discussion
Hi all,
I'm taking the wife to Venice end of May b/holiday and am after some recommendations for boat transfer from the airport to the hotel (or as close as we can get)
Ideally a private speedboat as long as it's not megabucks (though I know it will be expensive) or a decent water taxi? If the latter are these just picked up outside the airport or pre-bookable?

Many, many years ago the wife and I went to Venice for a week for our 25th. We didn't give a thought about the transfer from the airport to hotel, so on the day we went by the vaparetto to St. Mark's Square and then hired a man with a trolley (plenty available)to take our bags to the hotel towards the Rialto Bridge while we strolled alongside. All in all, quite a good way to arrive in Venice!
For the return we booked a private water taxi (speedboat). A really excellent way to do the journey and a great end to our time in Venice. We have some memorable photos from that journey. Boy was it expensive, though!

Went to Venice about 4 years ago so prices may be a bit outdated but used water taxi both ways but there was 4 of us. One way from what i remember was about 80 euro`s but definately the way to do it. You can book them in advance so they are waiting for you instead of having to queue etc. We stayed at the Grand canal Monaco so had its own dock straight into hotel and right next door to Harry`s Bar if you fancy an expensive drink. We really enjoyed hope you have a good time.
There is a company that let's you share a water taxi with 4 to 6 others and takes you quickly into venice only stopping at the needed hotels.
This was about one third cheaper than a flag down water taxi. We prebooked it online.
Would have been great but it was lashing it down and we all ended up huddled in the shelter.
Sorry can't remember the name but it should be on most websites.
I wouldn't get too stressed, one of the best trips was getting the vaporetto at sunset over to lido and then getting the same bus back.
Enjoy, we had a great time.

Hi Zippee,
Where are you staying ?
I'm going to take my wife for our 10th wedding anniversary in October but there are so many hotels I'm looking for a recommendation ? Some include water taxi from the airport as part of package ?
Cheers,
Thanks all for your comments - I'll do some more homework.Where are you staying ?

Cheers,
I've booked the American-Dinesan, a smaller hotel just the other side of the main canal from St Marks. Booked based on recommendations here and the reviews on trip advisor etc.
Staying around St Marks was 2-3 times the price and for me, likely to be too crowded and touristy.

I agree water taxi is the way to go if you can stomach the cost. Your hotel website quotes €110 each way in a taxi - you may well get it a bit cheaper pre booking, but not a lot. I would genuinely scrimp on other things and get the taxi there and back as it is a great experience, although the big public bus is great if the weather is good as well. It's not like getting the National Express!
Venice in May - perfect!

Thanks we were there (Sant Elena) all this week and used them to & from the airport - good service. On the way in we extended our journey to include a tour of the Grand Canal, cost an extra €50 and lasted about 40 mins - worth it.A beautiful city that we loved, some great recommendations :-
Riviera fantastic foodie restaurant, great service & sublime flavours.

Mela Verde simply the best Gelato I've ever had in Italy

Oh and take some good shoes - we averaged over 1000 bridge steps, and 8 miles walking each of our 5 days...

Totally agree about the walking - you cover some serious mileage and I wouldn't like to go at the height of summer...
