I'm entertaining a couple of American chaps who are flying into Brussels this weekend, and I've got the job of finding stuff for the three of us to do. I've only ever driven around Brussels and never into. Any suggestions on what we can do....they are full on petrol heads, but I see no racing going on at Spa, Zolder or Zandvoort. I'll be driving, so distance isn't really an issue (within reason).

All ideas considered.

Cheers,
LB

Car museum and war museum at Cinquantenaire, antique markets and antique stores around salon and jeu de balle. Plenty of interesting bars, coffin bar, delirium. Mannekin and janneke pis, grand place, the old restaurant area behind grand place

The thing about brussels is it's pretty easy to just stroll around or get the metro, and of course if you want to take a short drive you can visit the Ardennes and the American Cemetery

Oh and there's a few decent places to eat

Enjoy

Just realised, you are within easy striking distance of the Ardennes with all that means to Americans, and of course there is always Waterloo

Take them to Leuven and have a stroll around the old town. It is stunning, with superb architecture. I took an American client there for dinner years ago and he was blown away by the squares around the cathedral. It's only about a 25 / 30 minute drive from Zaventum.

That's fantastic ! Exactly what I was hoping for. The cemetery is a great idea that I think they would appreciate.

By the way, is Belgium closed on a Sunday like France, or are places open like the UK?

Thanks again....really really helpful.

I was in Brussels not so long ago. It was more of a place to enjoy the architecture and atmosphere whilst having a good Belgium beer and some food. Given how long the short commute to the office took, I'd say it's not a place for petrolheads biggrin Traffic is a nightmare.

Here's the Autoworld webpage. http://www.autoworld.be/ I've not been but it looks a good shout.

Well, the Atomium photo opportunity takes 30 seconds (maybe 5 minutes if you want to get creative). So that leaves plenty of time for... Belgian Beer of course!
