Roads are of great quality but being on UK plates and doing a sensible 90 mph can cause you a problem.
Eh? It's 750 miles from Calais to Genoa. If you were to do the whole stretch at 90 mph (not that one could, of course) it would take 8 hours 20 minutes. If on the other hand you were to do it at 85mph, which wouldn't cause you to have your collar felt by les Flics, it would take 8 hours 50 minutes.

Seems a bit daft to me to avoid the quickest and best route for the sake of backing off a tad on the loud pedal...

Ferry from Harwich to Esbjerg, drive to Oslo, ferry to Kiel and straight down through Germany and Italy, that will show les Flic what they can do with their speeding tickets.

Have you actually received any paperwork from these tickets? If it's simply the fact that you've been flashed by a camera, there's no need to worry as they don't chase them up.

In some ways the cynical approach of the French authorities makes it less appealing than Switzerland's admittedly tough (equally misguided) line on motoring velocity.
Agree. At least the Swiss impose the same rules on citizens from all countries including their own.

hehe

To a degree, but life would be much easier if I could do as I please whilst everyone else obeyed the law, don't you think?

That's part of the allure of 'abroad' though, isn't it? One can go and commit minor motoring offences free from the long arm of the British law...Or it used to be, anyway.

At the risk of being vaguely sensible for a moment, if you are wanting to avoid France, don't you think the the flaw in the plan is going to Calais in the first place?

Given the number plate recognition cameras that you have to drive past to get out the port, I would think the likelihood of getting stopped is higher in the first few hundred yards off the boat than probably during the rest of the trip down through the country towards Monaco.

There isn't a lawless utopia I can emigrate to, so the best option is to simply obey the law here out of necessity and break it abroad. wink

Again, I'm not the OP. Also, punctuation would make you sound (read?) less like a fking idiot. But thanks.

Sounds good to me. If I had the chance not pay them that's exactly what I would do.

OP - if I had an M5 I'd be wanting to spend some time on the Route Napoleon.
Indeed. yes A great bit of road.

Pay the fines and enjoy your holiday rather than looking over your shoulder in the rear view mirror during the times you are in France.

Were the previous fines/offences committed in the M5 also?
