We went at the end of September a few years ago, and the first day and a half was very wet indeed.

Thereafter, it was wall to wall sunshine smile

Maldivians have mentioned to me before that May and October are the months when the most unsettled weather occurs due to the monsoon season changes. Though you could argue that in today's unpredictable climate anytime of the year could turn out bad.

Is the rain an occasional downpour then clear? If it is couldn't care less.
Did Cuba end of the rainy season was very cheap and it did hammer down for about 10 minutes per day.
Always made us laugh how everyone apart from a few ran for cover. It was still 30 ish and we were wearing swimming kit. Hardly a reason to run to the hills.

October is usually fine but you can still get an anticyclone go through which can give 3-6 bad weather days. It is still warm but cloudy and rainy. The closer to Nov is better but we have had a total of 4 two week holidays from September to mid November over the last few years and only had 4 wash out days.

Changing of the seasons usually means that the waters are less calm and clear so maybe not the best for snorkling if that's your thing.
