I shoot, fish and eat meat. As I said above, everyone has their own line to draw. Mine is drawn before fox-hunting, bullfighting, badger-baiting etc.

I also don't see being a vegan or a hippy (or indeed a woman with ovaries) as a negative thing that should be use as an insult.
You must be going after some awfully big fish if you are badger-baiting.

They should barbeque the deceased and share the meat with the crowd, regardless of whether it is matador or bull.
I went into a restaurant in Spain once and the guy on the next table had this huge fantastic looking meal, just loads of thick cuts of meat. I asked the waiter what it was and he said that every day in the town there was a bullfight and every night they served up both the testicles to the first customer who asked.

So the next night I got in early and ordered the testicles. They came and they were very tasty, but it was a small portion compared to what I saw the other guy get the night before. So I asked the waiter why the portion was so much smaller and he replied "sometimes sir, the bull wins."

Oh come on.... I had a tiny bit of sympathy until you mentioned fox hunting.

Round here foxes are vermin. End of. I therefore don't care how they meet their end, in the same way I wouldn't care about poisoning Rats or spraying Cockroaches with a horrible chemical or whatever.

Anyway, I agree with the poster who said it may not be peasant but it's part of the history of that countries history that may not be around much longer.

I went to Auschwitz and Birkenau. It wasn't fun, it wasn't pleasant, It wasn't enjoyable. In fact some parts of the tour were utterly nightmare inducing.
But I went because it is an utterly barbaric, appalling and disgraceful chapter of human history that I needed to see with my own eyes to truly understand, and not just read about on my ipad, and I'm very pleased I did.

I think the same applies to bullfighting.

Some people love it, others like myself would go because it is a chapter in human history that will not be with us for much longer, and the bad of this world should be experienced, for balance, along with the good.

I went to Dachau for the same reason, however, if they were still torturing and murdering Jews, political prisoners, homosexuals and clergy, I probably wouldn't want to pay the camp commandant the admission fee.

Just seen my first ever bullfight, this may not go down well but it was awesome, the bull by all accounts did quite well!

What an experience! Bit pissed now, may say more tomorrow!

You beat me to it. Honestly NinjaPower, what a fking stupid comparison.

Auschwitz is essentially a museum. I've been too. When bullfighting is outlawed, I will have no problem about visiting a bullring to learn about why used to go on there.

I've also been to the Tower of London, but have no wish to attend a beheading. See the difference.

The fact people think these things are comparable is beyond comedy and well into disgrace.

It's not all bad.

However, I would never support anything so barbaric.
If it was fluffy pussycats, there would be uproar.

Thinking about it, that's not such a bad idea....

Very good. I wasn't going to click on it but thought I would so I could wind myself up for a suitable tirade!!!!

Talk about peeing on my fireworks.

It's not really a fight though is it.

It's more like a pantomime in an abattoir.
Spot on!
I used to spend alot of weekends stuck in Madrid with work, and the lads at the transport company were always good for a beer, etc over the weekend. They often offered to take me to a bull fight as it was a big thing for them, but its just not my cup of tea. If others want to go and watch it thats their choice, but i just get no pleasure from an animal being killed for entertainment.

I recommend the bull fights in bosnia and croatia. The bulls fight each other, well some of the time. Some fights dont even start because one bull immediately runs away from the other. Others are very short. But a good tussle can be surprisingly entertaining. Especially when inebriated spectators enter the ring smile.

Resurrecting an old thread on a controversial subject.

IMO paying to see a bull fight only supports a barbaric sport that should be confined to history

Went as a kid in the 70's / 80's don't remember exactly when. Over riding memory though is of it being a horrible spectacle, somewhat surprised that it is still going on tbf.

I’ve been to about 8, my last trip was to Las Ventas which is the Wembley of bullfighting in Madrid in June.

Saw Andres Roca Rey give a superb performance and be awarded 2 ears.

I accept most find it abhorrent but not me.

I can understand why some people may go, I can’t see how they don’t find it abhorrent.

Slowly killing an animal for entertainment isn’t a good thing.

“Death in the afternoon” it’s a well written book that’s worth the read as it’s quite informative whatever your view.
Its honest and you may /or may not need a cuppa/brandy at a couple of points. Carlos Primero will do to keep you in the Spanish frame of mind.
Yes, I know about Hemingway’s hunting, shooting, fishing, boozing and fighting lifestyle which may not be acceptable today.
Still an interesting book though.

There is a great movie called 'Gored' on Netflix.

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt4486290/

Fly on the wall docu follows matador Antonio Barrera who was one of the most gored bullfighters ever. What he lacks in natural talent he makes up for in balls.

It is worth a watch, regardless of what you think of bullfighting.
