Curiosity?

My best pal went to a cockfight in Costa Rica and he's an animal lover. It's good to experience things, good and bad, when visiting other cultures.

He said he found it pretty horrible but fascinating.
Well I'm glad my curiosity doesn't stretch to bull-fighting or cock-fighting or any other animal fighting.

There's enough st in the world without witnessing that.

That's just your own sensitivity though. Many people are less delicate about stuff - I wouldn't presume to tell you that you MUST attend one and likewise I don't see what the problem is if an adult chooses to go.

I can live with that, if people want to see barbaric acts on animals, it's up to them. smile

Agreed. I should clarify, I wouldn't go to a bullfight but also wouldn't 'not go' if I was being taken by a group or so. I don't agree with the practice but know it wouldn't especially damage me to see as I know it happens, thus witnessing it wouldn't make it any worse.

It's not really a fight though is it.

It's more like a pantomime in an abattoir.

I think curiosity isn't a good enough reason to go if you consider yourself an animal lover.

By going (and paying) then you're supporting it. By not going, yoiur money isn't not supporting it.

Personally, I wouldn't go, but I don't have a problem with other people that do.

I don't tend to spend time in Spain, but a bull fight is something I'd like to go and see if I get the chance.

I'm sure there must be some dog-strangling, wife-beating, child-torturing or other great 'spectacles' you could pay to go and watch if there are no bullfights on. If not why not just pay a homeless person to stick knives into another homeless person until he dies?

If you enjoy bullfighting that's up to you.

Guide to bullfighting said:
The guide details prolonged and profuse bleeding caused by horse-mounted lancers; the charging by the bull of a blindfolded, armored horse who is "sometimes doped up, and unaware of the proximity of the bull"; the placing of barbed darts by banderilleros; followed by the matador's fatal sword thrust. The guide stresses that these procedures are a normal part of bullfighting and that death is rarely instantaneous. The guide further warns those attending bullfights to "Be prepared to witness various failed attempts at killing the animal before it lies down.
I just don't see why enjoying watching the above is different from watching other animals being maimed and abused.

To be honest, ManFromDelmonte (he say no!) has crossed the line here. I don't have a glib comeback for that sort of darkness. Here I am, posting from my phone midway through an enjoyable day badger-baiting and hare-coursing with some close friends and delmonte's sick depravity has ruined it for me. I can scarcely maintain my erection.
