Aaargh

We're off on holiday tomorrow and irritatingly have forgotten to preorder some Euros
Ive tried online and cannot collect in time so we are at the mercy of counter rates

Assuming the Eurotunnel terminal is a bad place to buy then for 500 quids worth of Euros would you:

a) walk into the Post Office
b) walk into Sainsbury
c) take it from a cashpoint in Calais

Thanks - I cannot see in advance what the local options will give me but have a window to dash in first thing tomorrow, I have assumed their rates are worse than online but am not 100% from their websites

I'd rather travel with a few euros but always found cash points competitive. Make sure there isn't a minimum charge though.

I use M&S for a little cash before travelling.

I've always used cashpoints (taking more out than I'll need for the trip so I don't have to do it twice). Never felt stung by them, yet.

I never understand why people either travel with lots of cash or find convoluted ways to organise money.

Do people just not travel very much?
I can't remember the last time I went somewhere to get currency exchanged.
I tend to travel a lot and just returned from san blas islands and most of the places I go to are for real travelers and don't have cash machines, isn't part of the experience bartering with notes you don't understand with nods and smiles, I suppose if your hols include an all day breakfast in places like Tenerife then your not going to need a brain or anything other than a card.

The charge I get hit with at cashpoints plus the unknown exchange rate are the reasons I wish to get tooled up today

Look up the rate, do the maths. IME it's competitive, and the convenience is worth it.

Can you not pre-order from travel-ex and pick them up before you load up your car at the eurotunnel. You need to give 4 hours notice before collection. Not the best rate but if you are determined to take currency it will be okish currently 1.237.

ask your bank which euro banks' cash machines to use, they may have a co-operation with one or more

I changed £200 on the ferry over to France a few days ago, no idea if the rate is good, bad, or indifferent, but for the few quids difference it makes I'm not going to worry. When in France I withdrew at ATMs off my UK debit card or my USA Citibank card. I can't get my head around the relative exchange rates $ - € -£ well enough to work out where the best rate came from.

I know that diesel fuel was a hell of a lot cheaper there: £52 for half a tank in the uk compared to €54 for 3/4 of a tank in France. :O

Might be a bit late for you but just pick which ever of these is close to you and reasonably priced.

Define "a lot" , I tend to travel most weeks and the rates from the cash machine are always competeitive.

Have a gratuitous shot from this weeks window, it's nicer than usual smile

Well I used to have a red (not burgundy) passport for 15 years if you know what that is, and now like to think I've been most countries so only do 2 or 3 circumnavigations a year.
