Looking to get away for a week (ish) within a couple of hours of the Chunnel, late Aug or early Sep. Just me & MrsC, and we just want peace, quiet and relaxation. Preferably a pool, and a restaurant so we don't have to go out if we don't want to.

Location-wise, we need to be able to get back to the UK fairly quickly if necessary, so let's say north of a line from Le Havre to Reims.

We're not lottery winners but we're happy to pay for a reasonable level of comfort and luxury.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks, just having a look through those. Have you (or anyone) been to any of these?

I like the one at Honfleur by the sea but it's n/a for our dates grumpy

Relais and Chateaux are all to a good standard. I've used this book to travel through France on a few occasions, never disappointed some can be quite stuffy though.

I like also like Sawdays and cross reference everything on trip advisor.

We had a lovely stay here:

Outdoor pool, large bedrooms and bathrooms.
Handy for the Champagne house tours.

Thanks all, really useful.

@Shentodj, your link brings up a list - top one?

@964Cip, looks perfect but n/a on our (current) dates frown

@littlebasher - also looks excellent and possibly available, slightly further than we wanted to go but probably worth the extra travel!

@NDA - is Canisy B&B only? Don't really want to have to be going out in the evening too much?

You can have dinner at Canisy....

It's more of a private home (a huge one) that takes guests - there are small bistros etc in the town if you couldn't eat in the Chateau.

We used to stay at this place a lot
Chateau de Bellinglise
http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Hotel_Review-g2266864...

Which is near Compiegne so bob-on for Calais.

Frighteningly it's about 14 years since the last time - where'd that all go?

Use viamichelin.co.uk

The Michelin remains the reference for all hotel/restaurants in France.

Personally, I love the Assiette Champenoise in Reims (Tinqueux actually) but as he's just got his 3rd star I'm sure M. Lallements prices have gone up accordingly

That does look fabulous, but at 545EUR/night for the room and the set dinner menu at 138EUR pp on top, I think I'll wait until I have a matching pair of PH directorships before I go there to celebrate!

Its got cheaper rooms than that though smile

And the food is seriously world class. great young Chef at the top of his game. 3rd star awarded last year. Worth every Euro
