I'm starting to regret asking for advice on holidays.
if I'm not back posting after 12/10/14 please ring the foreign office for assistance and have a whip round to cover my legals bills
Mate, you will have a great time. Don't run around pissing in the street, and don't run around like you might in Ibiza, and you'll enjoy the place I'm sure.if I'm not back posting after 12/10/14 please ring the foreign office for assistance and have a whip round to cover my legals bills
I intend to:
1. act like a rotisserie chicken by the pool during the day
2. do a bit of shopping
3. eat a lot then retire at a reasonable hour
4. mooch about a bit.
I do like a drink, but more in the fixed in one spot chilling type
It's genuinely a chill out holiday that isn't a romantic couples resort, not full of English pubs, has nailed on sunshine in October and somewhere I haven't been before

Dubai is perfect then. You can sit around and pontificate all day long with various cold beverages being delivered at will. It's all I do when I am there.1. act like a rotisserie chicken by the pool during the day

Get the hotel car to take you to the shops - it's cheap enough and they will wait.
Make sure you go dune buggying!
We used these guys and it was great!

Also unless your travelling business/first class dont expect Emirates to be a premier service.
I recently had the displeasure of a business trip to the Far East with Emirates via Dubai. As I had no control over the ticket when you realise you're in Row 83 you understand how BIG those planes are. You also realise the drinks 'station' is so far foward it took over 1.5hrs to get a drink.
I rectified the situation on the return leg

That sounds like exactly what we were after, and we booked 10 nights in the Atlantis for September. 1. act like a rotisserie chicken by the pool during the day
2. do a bit of shopping
3. eat a lot then retire at a reasonable hour

Got a few things booked, like the Burj Al Arab high tea, Khalifa at the top, desert safari, shopping etc.. cant wait!
We'll probably spend most of our time in the Waterpark/relaxing

Hmm very odd, but if you select open in new tab they do?E21 above has posted the right guys, Delta.
They pick you up from your hotel in a roll caged V8 Chevy Suburban which the driver then canes across the desert to get to the buggying point, great fun.
Tripadvisor is indispensable for getting ideas for activities, if the above link doesn't work, go to tripadvisor, type in Dubai, click on attractions then click on activities.

We're doing exactly the same for one week in October, so it would be good to get your thoughts upon your return. Got a few things booked, like the Burj Al Arab high tea, Khalifa at the top, desert safari, shopping etc.. cant wait!

Book Marhaba for the airport or you will be stuck in the immigration queue for days.
Come here with an open mind and no pre-conceptions and you will have a great time.
If I can manage not to get arrested here then you are perfectly fine.
And I survived Libya and the Civil War, plus I managed to upset a high ranking Army Officer whilst I was there..

I really fancy Dubai next year for the big four-oh to watch the horse racing. But. I am permanently medicated, the codeine I can leave at home but my day-to-day meds are an opiod derivative, is this going to be a problem (based on peoples experiences)? For the ex-pats , do they sell Imodium out there ? What I am on is basically the same thing.

I used to have to go to Dubai fairly often, it is a horrible place, and one of the last places I would go with a mate for a week, and at last there appears to be some sort of publicity around what can happen to you for doing things that are perfectly legal in the West. rethink and don't go there.
I travel a lot on business to Dubai and it's one fked-up society if ever there was one.Personally I'd spend my own money elsewhere, if you want to sit on a beach most days, drink in the hotel (aside from the 'Irish Bar' by the track) then great.
Certainly not a holiday destination unless you're a WAGG or Chav!
