I was there a few months ago and really enjoyed it, wonderful place and very friendly. The attractions can get a bit busy (the Belfry was packed even first thing in the morning) but the beauty of the place made up for it.

Shame you didn't warm to it OP, happens sometimes.
Exactly this. I've been on many city breaks and the only one I absolutely hated was Barcelona. It didn't help that I was staying on Las Ramblas. I didn't like the architecture, the poeple and couldn't seem to find anywhere nice to have a drink in the evening. Apart from watching Barcelona playing in the league, I had a bad time.

I should have researched more as I know lots of people who have been and loved the city. I guess I missed most of the nicer parts depsite taking in the Gaudi and the marina.

I went with my girlfriend for 3 nights last October and loved it.

Like most here I found the locals friendly and the managers at both the Park and The Olive Tree both went out their way to provide top notch service (great personalised advice on where to go for drinks/food at the Park and free desert and wine for me and my girlfriend at The Olive Tree as he felt our table was a bit cramped in the corner; it wasn't at all). I'd fully recommend both of these places for food, even without the service the food was very nice.

Away from the main square didn't think it was much more expensive than any other major city.

A beautiful little town but too small for more than a day or two.

Slightly expensive compared to some places, cheap enough compared with London.

Pralinette on Woollenstraat (sp?) is the best chocolate shop in the world.
