I'm off to Hong Kong, China (Shenzhen, Beijing and Shanghai) and Manila next weekend. It's just a 10 day trip so not an extended visit.

Just compiling my holiday shopping list, is there anything out of the ordinary I should add to it for visiting these places?

At the moment I know I need some more shorts and light shirts as it'll still be hot, an Asia travel plug and possibly a decent mozzie repellant. Other ideas?

I was in China (Beijing Jixian and Xi an) and Hong Kong in May. Both were in low-mid 30s so it was just t shirt and shorts every day but Hong Kong had far higher humidity which made it less comfortable for me (it was May so just getting into summer). I would suggest take some hand sanitiser and you will need an adaptor for electrics in China if you are from UK. I was pretty cautious about what food I ate (anything freshly cooked) and only drank bottled water but water was cheap and readily available so had no problems. Have fun - id love to go back there and do Shanghai and more rural areas.

Can't be of much help, but:

Hong Kong uses UK sockets.

It is red hot at the minute. All the time.

Pack your own condoms. Local variety will be on the small side.

Many packs of Immodium, especially if you eat anything fished out of the Huangpu river in Shanghai.

Philippines uses US plug shape (but I think 220v, could be wrong).

Pack an umbrella unless you like bring drenched, too humid for an anorak.

Don't go to fking McDonalds or KFC. Try the local food including lamb skewers or whatever interesting street food there is. If you don't understand the menu just point at what looks tasty on other tables. You're not going to die or get diarrhea unless you have a really bad diet normally.

Dunno what you're doing in SZ, it's just a city with not much to see.
