Excellent - have been watching the snow reports and quietly praying that January sees a good spread of snow falls, enough to give a really good base for the whole place.

We've never stayed in the centre, always the Riffroid or up where we are close to the Cret Du Merle. There's a couple of cafes/pubs close to you smile

Queues are mental today. It's as if they've lifted all the pass restrictions in anticipation of the dump over the weekend. It feels like most of France is here.

Finally made it out on the slopes today. I was at Pre La Joux by 9, and the queues for passes and the chairlift were fairly small.

By midday it was busier and the snow conditions were horrendous, but still no mental queues for lifts. Much colder today though, so they had all the cannons going flat out. Fingers crossed for tonight and tomorrow.

Sat on the A40 going nowhere fast.

I have somewhat mixed feelings about this situation

Superb - pretty handy on the skis too , think that would take me twice if not 3 times as long to get down smile.

Apparently its utter chaos on the French routes towards the alps, 30,000 cars stuck going nowhere for the night. Combination of heavy snow, freezing rain, unprepared punters causing shunts, stuck lorries etc.

Any PH'ers on their way??

I'm in my chalet enjoying this, feel for all those en route. apparently access to the 3 valleys, Val d'Isere and Tignes is shut.
It would be Ironic if the resorts couldn't open tomorrow with too much snow....

Look on the bright side, you could have spent last night in a traffic jam or worse, like many others on their way to the mountains.
