Just trying to decide where to go, but I'll be going somewhere. Done most of the big french resorts so am considering Austria or Switzerland for a change. Though I do that every year and end up in France anyway smile

Anyone skied in Gressoney or the other areas in the Monte Rosa domain? I'm looking at doing an off piste guided week there, but have St Anton (been many times) and Val d'Isere (been half a dozen times) as alternatives. Gressoeny has a rep as an off piste Mecca (if conditons are good) not a lot goign on in the evenings which won't bother me as expect the course will be full on.

One of my first ever resorts. It’s a nice resort and you can get the sense of travel/adventure by heading over to La Thulie on the Italian side. The tow however is about the longest/flattest I’ve ever been on!

just booked for a week in zell am see at the end of february. cannot wait to kick off the apres in the little round bar right on the slope and the bottom lift. great laugh watching people struggle down that last 100m of slope to finish the day. 2nd time in zell and 6th holiday away.

as for learning, I would say getting some time on an indoor slope is a great idea before going away on a holiday. sounds stupid, but it really helps with simple things that people take for granted, putting on ski boots, clipping in/out of skis, carrying skis, walking/moving around on skis on the flat, going up poma lifts etc........ if you've never skied before even having knowledge on these things will really help before going away.

I'm wishing I'd booked my usual early season tune up but have a sunny type holiday this month so had to skip it this year-just my luck!

I think it was last season similar happened, heavy falls early had people hoping for a bumper season then it got warm and dry up until Christmas day.

Spoil sport.

Next up you'll be calling me juvenile for tittering at Asterix using the phrase "La Plagne has had a big dump"...

Flights booked to Las Vegas, waiting to see where the snow falls to see if we go to Tahoe or Colorado, Getting bored of Salt lake as we have been there the last few years with the lack of Tahoe snow. Quite fancy Arizona on the way around to southern Colorado, but at the moment about the only guaranteed hill we will ski will be the Las Vegas ski and snowboard resort (snow permitting)

Fingers crossed for a bummer Tahoe year though, they really need it.

It thought the LV one was going to be an indoor slope! The stats are impressive 2400m base station? Tahoe has had a few poor years now by their standards it's quite something to ski there having a large lake and alpine environment on one side and on the other desert.

LV is quite a nice little hill in a valley out of the sun up in the mountains north west of LV. Kind of unexpected to ski by day and be on the strip by night, and the funny looks you get traipsing through the casino dragging the "body" bag with the ski's in to the car.

Last decent trip to Tahoe was about 5 years ago when the view from heavenly was about as far as the ski tips, fresh tracks every run but none of the view your paying for! We had 8 foot of snow that week! But yes if you can see it, the view is fantastic. IIRC the following year wasn't bad either but it was a disaster for us with injury only three days in. Two following years awful conditions that saw us decamp to SLC, Montana, Idaho and Oregon, and last year we didn't even bother and flew to LAS rather than SFO so we could go east or west as necessary and ended up doing a Utah, Wyoming, Colorado loop. Managed to increase the resort count a bit though.

ETA, I meant bumper year for Tahoe, they have had enough bummer ones already!

Wasn't too keen on Tignes this year, so will be looking elsewhere.

Austria is top of discussions right now.

Got a week in Vail at the end of Jan ... first time to Colorado. Been to Tahoe and surrounding and Whistler before ... Whistler had the better facilities and conditions but still think some of these US resorts' facilities are behind the Europeans. Then 10 days in St Anton mid March ... potentially a weekend in Feb too ... trip will be based on how good the season is!

Currently on a European trip, stopped of in Cervinia for a few days, skiing today was fantastic loads of snow, no people, blue ski and low season lift pass, looking at weather forecast and will extend stay until the water breaks, it is actually possible to ski back to the resort, probably to early to say but people are talking about a great season.
