Great run from Calais today. Now stuffed with a lovely pizza and crashing out with a nice Merlot.

Up the mountain in the morning and early check in at the apartment.

Have a good week to all the others who have to suffer half term skiing.

Thanks that's good enough for me - she'll wear it once 6 days then pass it on.

Speaking as a North Face wearer, I would say that Spyder is a notch or three above TNF, at the very least price-wise.

Be very careful if you are contemplating purchasing cheap Spyder kit unless you are certain you know it's provenance. Someone I know turned up on a ski trip crowing about his new £150 online bargain Spyder jacket, which by day 2 was leaking like raw cotton and by day 3 was actually falling apart. It was then compared to a known genuine Spyder jacket where the irregularities of the fake item swiftly became apparent. He had to buy replacement kit in resort.

Aside from all that, your correspondent writes from his very comfortable chalet in the 3V. The snow is at best adequate, but unless there are several significant dumps, I wouldn't want to be skiing here at the end of next week after 250,000 half-termers have done their worst. There is just no base, and away from the cannons a LOT of rocks and vegetation are visible. Difficult at this stage to see how they will string out the meagre amount of snow until Easter, let alone end of the season. Outside temp an hour ago was +4 degrees - at 10 o'clock at night......

All I keep hearing is Bansko is banging snow wise currently bet snow since 2012.

That's from a reliable source who has lived there for over a decade + the pics and webcams tell all the story you need to see. However will it last until 21/3 and will it be topped up...?? Fingers crossed naked snow dancing

Well, haven't been up to the top yet but so far, Day 1 in La Clusaz has been good. A decent base which has been looked after meant we had a good morning getting our ski legs back. Just relaxing with a beer having been out since the lifts opened. I think we'll head high tomorrow smile

Snow is pretty decent in Verbier with good coverage....dusting yesterday and this morning which freshened things up. Looking at the weather forecast it's getting warm again with the freezing point above 2000m by the end of the week. Low resorts will be fked with the already patchy coverage if that's the case.

Is anyone in PdS at the moment? I am out there tomorrow for a few days and was wondering how the snow was holding out with what appears to be unusually warm weather at the moment. I am guessing it must be getting pretty slushy by mid afternoon.

Got back Sunday from a week in Belle Plagne, and as others have said, glad I'm not out there this week. Snowcover was decent but starting to wear thin in places. Les Arcs had better coverage it seemed from the couple of days we hitched a ride over on the gondola. By the end of the week we were pretty much just skiing on the Bellecote glacier to avoid the crowds - although it wasnt guaranteed.
Took a run down into Vanoise once and at one point it was pretty much grass skiing with a very narrow cover of mucky brown 'white' stuff to navigate on.
Although I'd rather be grass skiing than sitting in the office smile

Don't know, but even if it is, the combination of a very poor (thin) base and 3 weeks of half-termers will soon get rid of that anyway.

In La Clusaz, same as Ranger6.....sun's been out in force since we arrived...good for tans, bad for snow!

The Pisteurs have been doing a great job, although the Combe des Juments run's now a brown stripe on the mountain! Sun's expected all week, with NO snow at all. Let's hope the runs hold up for this week.

Despite that, we're still having a great week so far. smile

Got back Sunday. Was staying in Chatel. Snow actually pretty good around the whole resort; had a light dusting on Fri and Sat night. Little bit slushy on the lower/busier runs by end of the day, but nothing too bad. Have fun.

yes

The Combe des Juments is a liasion run between two mountains and is completely ste - mud and ice. The problem is that it's a red which funnels into a big double bubble across the valley.

The rest of the place is doing well, our son is doing his ESF gold and daughter has declared boredom and she doesn't want to ski with the crusties. We may meet up with 5potTurbo for a couple of runs smile

We're skiing Les Gets and Morzine and it's gorgeous. Bit slow on the lifts (could learn a thing not two from Colorado in terms of lift organisation!) but amazing weather and a good base that is only slushy in the villages.

Is that 1,800m or that the resort was established in the year 1800?
