Cuba in March = mosquitoes?
Discussion
Just back from one holiday and planning the next. This time a 2-week trip to Cuba (non-resort) next year.
One thing I really need to check after the Croatian experience: are Cuban mozzies in abundance year round? Do hotels have proper mozzie screens?
My Other Half thought it rather funny that in Croatia, I got bitten to pieces (about 20 times in one night) and she got bitten not once. Seems some people are tastier than others. And she can sleep while they buzz around and I can't. Harrumph!
I gather that Cuba has lagoons/swamps, so will be trying to avoid staying near those. But we plan on a few days hiking. Does DEET work well there? Etc
All advice welcome.

I went there in May a few years ago and honestly don't remember one mozzie or having to use repellant.
That's not to say there aren't any there, just my experience!
Seems from other forums that mossies can be an issue in the summer and autumn months, but:
"February is one of the best months for bug avoidance, primarily because it is further away from the rainy season, which would have ended in November."
So you might get lucky!
(Apparently its the sandflies between 4pm & 7pm that you want to watch out for!)
