Windermere - Hotel/Restaurant/Things to do ???
Discussion
Good Morning PH Collective,
My better half has told me we are going to be enjoying a Weekend break in the Windermere area!
Was wondering if anybody has any recommendations regarding hotels/restaurants and 'what to do' in the area?
Accommodation £200-£300 budget total for 2 nights
Only there from midday Friday to midday Sunday so wont have time or inclination to yomp 17 miles....
Ta one and all.

We stayed at the Hawksmoor last month, and ate at the following places -
But firstly, The Hawksmoor - http://www.hawksmoor.com/ I can't recommend the place and the owners highly enough.
Francine's - http://www.francinesrestaurantwindermere.co.uk/
Postilion - http://www.postilionrestaurant.co.uk/
Also, for wine cheeses and meats, check out The Country Hut in Bowness, it's not long opened, and is next door to the Beatrix Potter shop. If you go, tell him the Scottish cigar guy sent you
If you fancy treating yourselves, go here - http://www.holbeckghyll.com/ We went for the gourmet menu with the accompanying wines. Fantastic evening out, amazing food and stunning location.
Places like Hawkshead and Grasmere are wonderful little villages to wander around. From Hawkshead, if you drive to Ferry House, you can get the ferry back to Windermere.

Try the Drunken Duck near Ambleside: http://drunkenduckinn.co.uk/
Agreed, we end up going there at least once every time we're up that way (2-3 times a year.)Stayed at The Samling last year on a visit from the US. Awesome service, exquisite food and a fantastic room. It got a Michelin star just after we stayed. You'd do your budget in one night but it's worth it......

Linthwaite House Hotel just outside Bowness is fantastic.
Pop into Bowness for an Italian meal at Villa Positano - superb food.
I'll give another vote to the Linthwaite, had a great anniversary there a couple fo years ago.Pop into Bowness for an Italian meal at Villa Positano - superb food.
And they've got some great driving roads up their too. Although saying that Hardknott and Wynose passes aren't for putting your foot down more for enjoying the scenery. Enjoy.
The old stamp house - ambleside

This place will definitely get a Michelin star in the near future so its worth visiting now before the price ramps up. It really is excellent, one of the best meals I've ever had.
Lucy's on a plate is good for lunch as you say, there are better places for dinner as time is limited.
