Can anyone recommend a care hire company in italy?
I keep reading bad reviews on nearly every car hire firm, very few have any positive replys...

Thanks

Used Europecar in Sardinia in May 2014, no problems.

I've rented several times in Italy and the only problem I have had is them being unusually aggressive in trying to get you to take out all the extra waiver excess premiums.

Take out separate waiver cover before you go, book online, so the price is set and then totally refuse any extra cover you are 'offered'.

Yes, definitely book before you go.

This. We've used Avis a few times now from both Pisa and Malpensa with no issues bar pushy desk sales.

I rent a car pretty much every week out in Italy. I tend to prefer Europcar, but SixT are ok. Hertz are easiest to deal with.

But watch out for Europcar trying to charge you for refuelling even if you have already filled up. If they think they can get an extra litre in, they will happily add a 24 Euro refilling charge.

Enjoy driving in Italy smile

Used Avis from FCO, no issues.

I have Avis and Sixt premium cards, both are free to apply for, so a no brainer.

Fast priority queue if it's busy and a chance for upgrade / letterbox full of vouchers for a second rental.

Really plan your route, the motorways can be dead straight (Roman roads of course) and boring at times.

Used Hertz in Tuscany (Florence) a few weeks ago.
Quick desk service, decent value, decent car (3 series auto 4d)

Booked excess insurance separately for £15 for the week.

Having booked cheap car hire in various European locations over the years, I've given up long ago standing at check in desks for 2hrs waiting for a st car in an attempt to save £100
