Well done Russian tourists!
Discussion
Phuket is horrible because of them, a real mess.
Nha Trang in Vietnam isn't much better.
In fairness I think some of the youngsters are becoming better. Sone speak exceptional English and seem very well educated, also have lost the arrogant/rude attitude that the previous generation have.

Only ever met 2 Russians in my life and that was in Macau bar, interesting, respectful and well mannered, although he was carrying a concealed 6-7in combat knife for some reason, certainly not a guy to fk with. He was in his mid-30s. Thinking back I've known a few more local expats who are Russian (near Kazakhstan or somewhere), again respectful and intelligent, although maybe that's because they are Expat workers working in specialised jobs so unlikely to be a typical tourist.
Mainland Chinese tourists have a very poor reputation in these parts.

I believe the first tranche of tourist from any emerging economy are likely to be 'arsehats'.
The rational being that as that economy becomes 'rich' , it's the richest, more privileged that start venturing abroad first with their sense of entitlement and superiority based on their social position back home.
In time, as the money flows down, more 'normal' people start to be able to travel.
Certainly what I've heard of Russian, and recently Chinese tourists would support this theory.

Most Rich Chinese go to Europe or North America, the relatively poorer ones come to Hong Kong to spit in the MTR and st in the bins, etc. Although I've not seen much evidence of this myself and put it down to local inferiority/superiority complexes. Although the stares and queue jumping gets on my tits though.Edited by scorp on Friday 19th September 10:03

The first new money Russians loved Thailand, Egypt, Cuba and Goa. They were indeed rude uncultured scumbags. Easily identified as fat ball headed gangsters with much younger wives dressed up as 1980's prostitutes. As posters have pointed out, the younger Russians are much more sophisticated and represent their country much better.
Rich Indians from Delihi and Mumbai appear to be running the Russkies a close second for obnoxious, spoiled, "I want it and I want it NOW" behaviour in places like Thailand.
I REALLY wanted to deck the bloke with the shouty wife who were reducing the Thai girl waitress in our hotel in Phuket to near tears a couple of years ago. Newsflash - the caste system was banned 60 years ago a'holes.
Same behaviour (different people) observed in the shops "I have been waiting too long. Serve me NOW"

What i want to know is.....
On a recent holiday to Turkey, the younger Russian ladies < 30 were complete stunners, i mean really "wow".
That being said, most seemed to have taken their mothers with them, who were considerably less attractive, possibly different species.
At what age does this transformation occur?

From my observations of similar species around the globe, it's 3 nanoseconds after a wedding ring is affixed. On a recent holiday to Turkey, the younger Russian ladies < 30 were complete stunners, i mean really "wow".

I'll echo some other comments, I'm not the most social person but happily gave two blokes from St.Peters a 3 hour lift from a mutual friends wedding recently. Both young and hilarious.
One was making a killing importing horrendous furniture that no one in Europe would want for the new chavs who lapped it up.
I've seen the acrylic stripper heeled monstrosities with comrade cave man in tow in various arrival halls though, Russia is a huge place, it's bound to have its population of new money scum though.

I was thinking something similar. There seemed to be a shocking 'rules don't apply to me' mentality with these chaps. They were clambering over ancient ruins (to be photographed) which were fenced off and that really isn't on imvho. Typically middle aged (with a younger model gf/wife on their arm). One looked particularly sheepish when I told him off in Russian (glad I did that GCSE at school!).The rational being that as that economy becomes 'rich' , it's the richest, more privileged that start venturing abroad first with their sense of entitlement and superiority based on their social position back home.

Having spent some time in Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and almost everywhere called...stan. I can say that the change seems to occur at about age 40........At what age does this transformation occur?
I don't know if it's a state sponsored event but they must go off to an ugly farm somewhere where they are turned into the beginnings of a babushka.
