Does anybody here work in travel insurance or have any experience of traveling whilst pregnant? Were any special terms imposed on the policy or where there any exclusions based on having one in the oven?

Only standard date restrictions - how far along- and any medical conditions. Have a look at any well known travel insurers website, they will have a FAQ, that should answer most standard questions,as well as airline times - how far along you can fly when pregnant. Relevant info is easy to find and best got 'from horses mouth', so to speak - the ones who will be insuring you.

I've had a brief look through policies and they are all a bit vague. I'll give some companies a call before we book the flights

IIRC 28 weeks tended to be the cut off for needing a Dr's letter to fly.

We flew when my other ½ was around 20 weeks and the insurers said pregnancy "wasn't a medical condition" so that's what I keep telling her hehe

Return home before 33 weeks is the usual criteria, other than that nothing.

I went skiing at 4 months pregnant so asked similar questions.

We needed a pregnancy specific travel insurance when Mrs P and myself went away - Google and you'll find suitable providers - if not I'll look back and see who we used.

Thanks, a link on Money Supermarket would suggest she won't be able to travel as it's after 30 weeks. Given that we are flying to and from Australia, I think it's a no go

You can fly until the 36th week. However, I traveled to Texas which is where my wife is from for a baby shower when she was fairly late in pregnancy expecting to stay 2 weeks - a few minor complications caused us to be unable to travel home, and now after 5 months (today!) we finally get to return home next weekend with our baby!

From what I've seen airlines are happy to allow people to fly up to 34 weeks and insurance companies tend to be ok with this, is a Dr says so. However, you don't get your money back after 26 weeks if you have to cancel the flight.

I'm really starting to waiver on the idea of her going, what with it being Australia and all.

After my 5 months stuck here I'd agree!
