Huge long shot, and maybe this should be on the Film thread, but does anybody know the location of this apartment (or possibly hotel terrace)? It appeared in the opening scenes of Woody Allen's movie Manhattan. Obviously it's in Manhattan, and by the looks of it on the edge of Central Park somewhere.

If it is a hotel, I intend to take Mrs Blackpuddin there. An apartment might be harder.

Thanks for that link, a very interesting resource, unfortunately it doesn't mention this particular location.

I would say that is the upper east side, looking south on 5th avenue.

No idea which street though.

930 Fifth Avenue? Allen possibly using his own penthouse for the scene?

Looks about right location (74th Street) and has similar railings.

I just looked all the way up 5th from 59th Street to Harlem, and I couldn't spot the style of window you can see in the background.

After a bit more searching, I think you'll struggle. It's just too expensive to get a hotel in that area. The closest I could find was The Surrey. It has crazy expensive suites with private balconies, but it also has a rooftop terrace bar from which you can at least see Central Park (a bit).

Thanks all, some great PH sleuthing! Allen's penthouse is an inspired shout though the railings aren't quite the same.

Its the penthouse terrace on 834 Fifth Avenue at 64th street. The building in the background was renovated some years back and lost some of its distinctive window treatments making it look more uniform.

To replicate that scene try the Pierre Hotel or Sherry-Netherland Hotel. Both have set back terraces on the park albeit closer to the southern end of the park.

Wow tremendous, thanks, is there no unanswerable question for PHers?
