I know this thread is a few months old guys. However I'm travelling to Dubai Friday (Overnight LHR-DXB) and Emirates have emailed and offered an upgrade for 450GBP to Business, wondering whether anybody would think it is worth it?

It doesn't seem as cheap as some people have been offered in the past and I will have to pay with my own money as the company client wouldn't pay but are these offers for every flight as it seems hit or miss?

You can probably drink half the difference, especially if you start in the Lounge, have a much better meal and then have a flat bed to sleep it all off. You also get chauffeur service at both ends included so probably saves you another £100+

If you can afford it I'd go for it; I travelled business with Emirates on a number of occasions last year LHR-DXB return and the difference between upstairs and downstairs is quite a bit. Service is impeccable, the seats are comfy and fold out almost flat, plus you get more space and a nicer menu.

The lounges at LHR and DXB are really nice and you can board the plane directly from them, unless you really want to lord it over everyone else and go downstairs just so you can walk past them and up the stairs to the upper deck wink

I should think that is only one way so you only get lounge in LHR and doubt it includes chauffeur services. It might still be worth it as business is usually around 5 times economy fare, the beds/seats and food is also much better.
If it is round trip, definitely go for it.

They have offered me a $700 upgrade from DXB-LHR tomorrow, does not include lounge or chauffeur.

It's reasonable value considering the standard Business class price. Worth it for a one-off, especially on the A380.

I'm hoping it's a sign of massive over-booking in economy and abundance of business seats. i have a gold card so quite close to the top of the list for upgrade anyway smile

This is what my email said as well, does that mean I'll be unable to access the lounge at all or are there tier lounges?

First level of lounge access is restricted to Gold and/or Business class, with a separate lounge for first/platinum.

At least, that is the case for LHR/DXB.

Surprised they don't let you have lounge access because as silver or gold you get that anyway. Maybe they don't want you talking to others in the lounge about the price you paid for you ticket!

I'd be surprised; every Emirates flight I've been on for that leg has been chock-full downstairs and up, even Business Class. I flew DXB-LHR First Class in December and even all 20 suites were full!

I fly quite regular LHR-DXB with Emirates and sometimes i wonder how they keep those 380's in the air. Last flight about 3 weeks ago to DXB and there must be no more than 150 on the flght.

I've decided to not bother with the upgrade, I'll slum it in cattle class. I've got noise cancelling headphones and am only little, I'll survive.

I can then spend the saving on cool stuff in Dubai/Abu Dhabi. Anyone been in that 3 seat dragster? hehe
