One thing you really shouldn't take lightly is the lack of petrol stations in Death Valley and to a lesser extent Yosemite.
I'd agree to a certain extent, but assuming fill-ups at Shoshone (if heading North) or Furnace Creek (heading South) then any car should be ok. We were on a Harley and that coped.

Did not fill up at either of those places, managed to get from Vegas all the way to Lone Pine going through Badwater etc. most of the time with the roof down in a 6.2L V8 smile

Thought the fuel was really expensive at ~$6 a gallon and that there would have been more petrol stations just outside DV, very silly in hindsight!

Can't remember exact place but on route 66 heading towards Indian Wells, we were passing a small compound and a woman complete with tool belt and large pickup was coming out the gate. We stopped as my wife was wanting a wee, she asked the woman if there was a toilet. Woman says "that bush over there looks kinda good, but watch out for the snakes" lol. We still use that whenever she says she needs the loo.
Anyway while wife does the snake dodging thing I said where is nearest fuel, it was something back 90 miles or forward over a hundred miles, I don't think she was kidding.
