Looking for a recommendation for a single night stay at the end of a trip. Budget is around £200 as its a christmas present. Ideally looking for something to include and meals and spa treatments. Can anyone help?

We did a one nighter at the Siam Kempinski. Absolutely fabulous. Easy to get to by skytrain from airport. Easy to get to anywhere else.
Go for a cabana room has pool access and access to exec lounge on 15th floor.
Located next too Siam paragon shopping mall, but when in hotel you'd never know

We stayed at the Banyan Tree earlier this year. Rather nice, and a short walk from the night-markets. Got some great views from the top too.

ETA - you have to be lucky with their offers though to fit your budget.

Sir

If you can stretch your budget just a little... you might be able to get into the Mandarin Oriental.
It is legendary...
Still my favorite hotel ever...

Mine too. I suspect that if you call them direct, speak to the front desk and haggle a little that you can get a room there (just) within your budget. Worth it for the unbelievably good service.

Four Seasons. Great location, it is a bit older (1980's) so less bling, but it is so good, understated luxury

Sukothai - Location is a bit awkward, but a resort style hotel in the centre of Bangkok. Great thai restaurant

Oriental may be out of your budget, but try.

I cannot recommend the following hotel enough, different to the mainstream brands but with great service!

Siam Kempinski is definitely the one to go for. Try and book a Cabana or Duplex room. Has one of the best Thai restaurants in Bangkok too.

Oriental is regularly voted one of the best in the world - I find it a bit old-fashioned.

Bangkok has 5* hotels opening all the time, so it's a very dynamic market. Most of the older ones that are more famous are getting a bit tired now (Lebua, 4 Seasons, Oriental, Sukhothai etc).

Most have spas, however I find them to be a waste of money, still cheap by UK standards, but I much rather go and get a few hours massage at a place called Healthland.

I very much enjoyed the sukhothai, but it was over a decade ago. I believe you can get a suite quite reasonably.

Tower club room at the lebua, no other hotel offers views like it with a balcony. Service tip notch, tower club suite open all day too to include unlimited drinks and various food up until 6pm.food is delicious and away from the horrid touristy part of BK.

Mandarin I would like to try but when I can't fault lebua I just keep going back for that view.

As said the Mandarin Oriental is special. But about £350 a night.

I usually stay at the Shangri-la - a few hundred yards down the river from the mandarin.

Make sure that you get the breakfast at the Shangri-la and then go to the mandarin for dinner (there's a free boat which is nice). Even the bar menu outside at the mandarin is nice. Do walk around the mandarin - afternoon is best.

If you choose a different hotel make sure that it's close to the skytrain.

The changer-la does some packages that include massage. Otherwise I think they're about £70 a pop.

Bangkok has the cheapest 5* hotels in the world (at least that I've been to) so enjoy.

I know Shangri last is nice, we have stayed in others across the world and whilst I haven't stayed in the bk one it didnt look very special at all to me. Again beating on about the view but right by the river, low down, with no balcony? Compared to towering over the city with views of the city and the river, and being so high up you get a small break from the noise and smells of BK which for me stopped me from going insane lol

You can just see the Shangri la in the bottom right hand corner.

Always wanted to try the Shangri La. So I did - Xmas two years ago. Big disappointment. A bit shabby. Too big/. Too impersonal. Too crowded. Massive queues for breakfast. Pool area mobbed.

I guess that I've been lucky.

There are rooms with balconies (there was a well-reported suicide there last year from a balcony).
I think that it's something like 25 stories high, but the rooms do look over the river rather than the lights of BKK.

The pool is very peaceful with a nice garden area, I've never had troubles getting a seat.
Likewise, I have never found breakfast crowded but I do eat early.

I guess it's a matter of taste. Any 5* should be enjoyable. And you should certainly at least visit one of the open air rooftop bars - lab, banyan tree etc.

Ive read similar of the Lebua in all honesty and whilst breakfast is busy Ive never struggled to get a seat (well you get shown to a table rather than searching for somewhere.

Pool area doesnt get a huge amount of sun and not many beds but again hardly anyone bothers with it.

as for the Tower club lounge again not really all that busy, big comfy lounge chairs the only problem for us was very noisy germans at the table next to us one day!

Ive also read of Lebua:

Shabby/furniture needs updating - yes its not all brand spanking new etc but for me aslong as its clean and comfy and not falling to bits I'm happy. big bathroom with seperate bath and shower etc MAHOOSIVE bed with very soft sheets.

not being allowed to use the balcony - again never had issue, cant remember having to sign a waiver either before they opened the doors even.

staff being rude - again never had issue with them, can never do enough to help and the 2 problems Ive had whilst there (both on my 2md visit) 1. my card would work with the security deposit - after finding out my card was fine they just left it and said they might try again another time (didnt) 2. we had complimentry dry cleaning one our 2nd visit, so used it! on checking out we had a rather big bill and were told it was only so many items per day (we did prety much our whole suitcase done! - complained and management came out (dont ever shout at Thais, stay quiet and smiling, they find Shouting VERY rude and will then probably not help you) explained we were not told of the 3 item per day rule and on the website offer it said nothing of it (later found it did in the T&C's) and she dropped the charge off the bill. They greet you like royalty (as do most people in Thailand) and on our 2nd visit we had numerous extras for returning like free mini bar etc.

TBH you could stay at the riverside IBIS and I doubt you would not be disapointed, there are not really many BAD hotels in Thailands I have found and any of the suggestions I'm sure you will be happy with, but it all depends what you want/expect from it.

I used to stay in the banyan tree always, but I've now moved to the Vie hotel for a bit cheaper.

the suite was bigger than my flat?!

The Bangkok hotel market is probably the best in the world, it's just a fact that you'll find better than the Lebua. i.e For the same price you'll find a newer, better hotel.

e.g. The Lebua is £88 next weekend - you can get cheaper rooms in Chatrium Riverside, Sofitel So, Sofitel Sukhumwit, both Anantara's, Mode Sathorn, Renaissance - all newer and nicer. That's not even mentioning the older 5 stars which are £20 cheaper like the Sheraton, Hilton, Marriot etc and IMO better than Lebua.
