In the end did black cab from KX to Heathrow, £78 plus tenner tip.

Extortionate amount of luggage to lug decided it.

Thanks all and good night.

Thanks for closing the thread out - how long did it take?

I have someone coming over from the US in a couple of weeks, and trying to decide on advising them on the Heathrow Express / Taxi or just a straight taxi from Heathrow

OP should have used PHs cab firm of choice ...Addison Lee.

Get some real world feedback on them, assuming he makes it to LHR unscathed.

Took about an hour but there was an accident causing jams.

I had booked a firm called Hummingbird who were supposed to pick me up from KX and deliver me to LHR for £48 but the fkers never turned up. Got a regular black cab at the taxi rank. Not cheap but worth every penny.

I would personally have just got on the Piccadilly line. Tubes are still pretty empty westbound from Kings Cross, especially in front or back carriage. Stick big luggage by the space by doors and take small bag to your seat, sit for approx. 50min - 1hr and get off the other end.

Yes, it does get very busy, but if you get a seat (which you will that far up the line) then that doesn't really matter. Never bothered with Heathrow Connect, Gatwick express and the like.
