That's always been my interpretation.

However I've always had mine countersigned just to be on the safe side.

I renewed mine last year and didn't get anything countersigned, I looked 10 years older but it wasn't a drastic aging process hehe

I renewed our passports a few weeks ago, and was wondering how long it would take.

Filled the applications in on line and then posted the declarations on a Friday pm. New passports arrived the following Thursday and the old ones got back a few days after.

If you think your face has changed then why not do the post office checking service and if the person behind the counter says its not you then go and get the photos certified.

I think you'll be OK. Despite all the hoo ha, it all seems to work fine, especially if you go the online route.

I gave my mobile number and all I got was a text telling me when the courier would be coming by, after the delays over the summer I doubt the Home Office will be wanting to create more problems with frequent texting.

Having done the paperwork online, I dropped the returned renewal form into the Post Office with new photo, paid for it to be checked and sent. That was Friday week before last. Text message on Monday to say it had been received, another on Wednesday to say it had gone for printing, got home to find my new passport had been delivered!

Amazing service.

They only checked my new photo, took some cash and posted it for me. I needed it back in a hurry, thought it was worth a few pounds extra to make sure I hadn't done anything daft!

toxic,

last time I renewed, the standard procedure was that the passports were hand delivered to my home so I needed to be there to sign for them. They were not mailed. Things may have changed, of course, but you need to be aware of how it/they will be delivered.

Hey Toxic,

I did mine last month, was surprised at how quickly it got turned around. 7 days from them receiving it to me getting both the new one and the original back.

Mines was also counter signed as my pic on the old passport had specs on and the new ones have to be face furniture free.

I did go through the counter checking service though and paid for it all at the P.O.

Cheers,

Question.

About to go on long trip. Will need new passport. Passport can be renewed mid-trip.

Or I can renew it now, but if it doesn't turn up within 4 weeks, trip will be in ruins.

Is it safe to renew it? Or are delays still happening?

As I understand it the delays were due to the "High season" (So my mate said who's working at the Home Office at the mo). As when I said, mate no idea what all the fuss was all about! Mine came back within 8 days total turnaround.

from me getting the "received passport" text to them sending the your "passport is ready" text was 2 days in my case. I did opt for the P.O. checking service and my Pics were counter signed.

Month is loads of time*

  • I accept no responsibility if this turns out to not be the case.

get it done online now you should be okay - dont really see why people need the post office to check youve signed your name on the papers , check your photo fits their requirements , most photo studios will do em for a fiver or so and make sure theyre acceptable

These 7 day turnarounds reported.... were these for the standard service or the fast track service?
